710956 2008-10-09 17:53:00 Vista is horrible... I just slipstreamed SP1 with Vlite and I was testing it out... and at the same time I had 99% completed downloading a 2.2GB file (which took about 4 hrs) and suddenly BAM! it's crashed with "file access error"

Turns out this is specific to running DownThemAll on Vista.... :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

Expressing how I feel right now would probably get me banned from PF1 for life...
Using a download manager would have assured all was not lost!

710957 2008-10-09 18:36:00 If laptops don't have XP drivers, too bad. Stick with Vista anyway, even if it does have the discs. (Shred them. :D) pcuser42 (130)
710958 2008-10-09 19:18:00 Even windows 7 may not be that great - time will tell. Theres a article in the latest Aust PC Authority, one part says
Sinofsky claimed microsoft is taking great care not to overhype the new features in Windows 7, claiming the company doesn't want to " Set expectations around the release that end up disappointing you - features that don't make it, claims that don't stick, or support we don't provide" SO once Windows 7 comes out it will be the same old same ol - some drivers not working on current equipment, or not available - nothing changes, the same happened with XP when it first came out, BUT by then - XP will more than likely not be available so we will be stuck with what ever is available when wanting a New PC. Here we go again :)

I would rather my shiny new laptop was capable of keeping up with me, Knowing full well the hardware is perfectly up to the job it only leaves the bloatware.

Granted your a fan of Vista, That doesn't make me want to operate at your level.

710961 2008-10-09 19:29:00 Windows will always suck until (never going to happen) they drop all the legacy crap and start a spanking new OS, New Drivers, New apps. Metla (12)

And then everyone will complain that all their old programs and peripherals dont work.

710963 2008-10-09 20:05:00 And then everyone will complain that all their old programs and peripherals dont work.In that same article I mentioned above for W7
Among more radical suggestions we've seen include a cut down kernel built for speed, and moving to 64-bit Exclusively. Microsoft hasn't revealed much in the way of concrete features yet, but startup performance, improvements to the Vista kernel and plenty of optional features -----

So IF it goes 64 - Bit only , that will open a HUGE can of worms with software/hardware not working. :waughh:

Who cares? The idea is to not promise them they will, quite the oposite, promise them there crap hardware and apps are of no use if they want to "upgrade"

We don't run 50 year old engines so people can continue to use wooden wheels.

Current systems (hell, last generation systems) are far better for running current apps and hardware, any other claims are pure marketing.

710965 2008-10-09 21:05:00 In view of the dislike of Microsoft,I presume you wiz's would suggest we go to Apple?

I mean to say,we need something, even if it's something to complain about.
