Ah, you poor fellers - who seemingly never actually dare to TALK to the girls themselves about this stuff . Most of us don't actually bite, but that would spoil the story - and the fun . But on a more serious note - I'm delighted at how many of you speak of SHMBO as a normal/fun life situation . It contrasts with those who use violence to get approval for their decisions . |

| 709824 | 2008-10-06 08:31:00 | Swmbo hit me with a shopping day last Friday, it was a genuine all day job with four suburbs and every damn frippery shop in two counties. After 8 1/2 hours of this excruciatingly cruel and unusual punishment she declared that it had been a beautiful day, a real pleasure. She had gained a pair of shoes and a scarf. Aside from the 473 I had to pass judgement on, I have never seen her with a scarf. It was fairly economical I must admit, less than $80 for the day including parking and lunch, but I feel sure that there was some hidden feature in the whole expedition that completely escapes me. Strangely, I can't get her into a hardware shop with a team of dogs and a stockwhip. |

That's Manspace!!! You want to actively discourage her from visiting this type of shop (and any similar); a man needs a refuge from femininity, somewhere to go and grunt, scratch and grow hair, without any interruptions from the gentler (so they say, but I reckon it's a conspiracy) sex. :stare: |

Good one Gary, must try that one. My SWMBO quite likes her personal space so this one will work. And gads, yes, keep them away from hardware stores, that is a pure and unadulterated male privelege. Btw, at our Mitre 10, I found the ladies working there to be much more knowledgeable than the guys - a very strange fact that I am sure is aimed at slowly infiltrating and overtaking this last all male domain. sarel |

I hate clothes shopping, its a necessary evil best done as fast as possible, or preferably online, as rarely as possible . On the other hand I can happily enter a Mitre 10 or similar . Although we tend to go in different directions - he's looking at screws and bolts and I'm looking at larger items like log splitters (really love the neighbours one, I want one) and drills . Now, PC hardware shopping on the other hand . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :clap |

| 709830 | 2008-10-06 21:59:00 | True story: I've been shopping with SWMBO the last few weekends. Weekend before last she got a pair of boots for $180, and a top for $60. This weekend, she got a pair of pants for $105. I informed her last night that I'm going to buy myself a (slightly) flash bbq (around $560). She pulled all sorts of faces and said we needed to discuss the expenditure of our money. I'm actually paying for it with the money I make from doing the odd PC fix for workmates etc. Where's the logic I ask you?????? :groan: :D I've stopped looking for the logic. I find if I think of all of her decisions as randomly generated, that they all make a little bit more sense. There's a time for giving in, and a time for just buying the sucker and putting up with the fallout. And to PCTek, I concede that lots of people don't conform to stereotypes, and it's often not fair to use them. However, often they're so bang on it's not funny, they get that way for a reason. So while we respect that you're not like this, enough people are (my GF for one) that I think we're fairly justified. |
