827790 2009-11-06 23:27:00 OK - help me out here - am getting a bit old and English is my only language! What motherboard should I use?
Thanks

827791 2009-11-06 23:30:00 You need a 1366 mobo, if you want a 1366 CPU Speedy Gonzales (78)
827792 2009-11-06 23:34:00 For video work I would highly recommend getting a SSD for the OS drive - use the 1TB drives for storage. Will speed things up a lot. You don't seed such a nice graphics card for video work, you could quite happily get a 4870 or GTX 260 and that would still be way more grunt than you need, unless you get into gaming. I would get a cheaper graphics card and put the money toward one of these (www.computerlounge.co.nz). :D I would also get Seagate or Western Digital hard drives rather than Samsung, but I've heard Samsung are quite good now, would be interesting to hear what everything else thinks about that.

The Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R is a good board. Has both Firewire pin types on the back panel too, that's a bonus.

827793 2009-11-07 00:06:00 OK – will all this work!
Processor: Core i7 920 2.66GHz LGA1366
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR
RAM: A-Data 6GB (Tri-Channel Kit - 3x 2GB) DDR3 1600MHz
Video Card: Gigabyte 896MB GTX 275
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit

If not - what do I need to change?
Thanks

827794 2009-11-07 00:16:00 The GA-EP45-UD3LR isn't 1366 its socket 775. So, no it wont work with that CPU. You have to change the mobo to a 1366 one. If you want that motherboard, you'll have to change the CPU, to socket 775. But this doesnt have firewire on it. THE CPU and mobo MUST MATCH to work Speedy Gonzales (78)
827795 2009-11-07 00:39:00 OK - which Motherboard from this site? pcu.co.nz stuffed (1469)
827796 2009-11-07 00:47:00 OK - which Motherboard from this site? pcu.co.nz

pcu.co.nz

That one is good - but the price is a rip from that site. In fact everything on that site is very very dear and their range is useless. Look at Computer Lounge www.computerlounge.co.nz That board is $349 incl freight from Computer Lounge, CL is probably the best in the country with customer support/after sales service etc. They will even build it for you for $100.

I also notice you have no case or power supply specified.

Try this for a case

www.computerlounge.co.nz

and this for a PSU

www.computerlounge.co.nz

Did you read my post earlier on, I already said that board would be good...

827797 2009-11-07 00:48:00 I think you need a better site. Looks like there's only 1 1336 mobo on the site, this one (www.gigabyte.com.tw) if you want 1366. ($424).The rest are 775 Speedy Gonzales (78)
827798 2009-11-07 01:47:00 INTEL CORE I7 920 NEHALEM 2.66GHZ 8MB
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R INTEL X58 DDR3 PCI-E LGA1366
CORSAIR 3x2GB DDR3 1600 TRI-MEMORY

$2200-2400 from CL

827799 2009-11-07 01:47:00 These are a good package together.

CPU: INTEL CORE I7 920 NEHALEM 2.66GHZ 8MB 1333MHZ LGA1366 --$529.00
www.computerlounge.co.nz

MoBo: ASUS P6T SE INTEL X58 DDR3 ATX PCI-E SLI --$399.00
www.computerlounge.co.nz

RAM: CORSAIR TR3X6G1333C9 6GB (3X2GB) DDR3-1333 XMS3 CL9 --$279.00
www.computerlounge.co.nz

Then you could get, although it may be overkill if you don't game much:
GPU: GIGABYTE ATI HD5850 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E --$549.00
www.computerlounge.co.nz

If you don't plan to game much then a 4850 of some flavour would be great.

Wratty's PSU and Case are both good suggestions. Then all you've got to decide is BluRay or DVD and whether you want an SSD. You'd probably be OK with 64GB but 128GB is nice and not *that* much of a price increase.
