709995 2008-10-06 06:59:00 Unfortunately sometimes money just has to be spent. What's the alternative beetle? Let these criminals back out on the street so they can re-offend again, and create more victims?

That's why I was annoyed at the comment by that woman on the news which criticised National for locking up these criminals for longer, because "what about the victims - they don't get anything". The point of these policies is to prevent others from becoming victims in the first place, by keeping repeat offenders out of the community.

To me, the most important policy is what to do about Winston Peters. One major party advocates propping him up at any cost, despite the clear evidence of fraud, lying to parliament and the public, and then the criticism of the SFO and privileges committee for doing their jobs, while another major party is wanting him kicked out.

709996 2008-10-06 07:11:00 Whichever one gets in will jack up the parlimentary pension scheme a couple of notches, and regretfully decide that in line with the recommendation from the hiya (Rhymes with liar) salaries commission they will have to accept their new salary pack.
Whoever wins, we lose.

It is all enough to drive one to drink (but get someone else to drive home).

Other than that, vote with the cheery thought that no matter who you vote for, you are voting against a lot more. ;)

709997 2008-10-06 07:32:00 The only bad thing about this is how much it will cost us due to the lavish lifestyle they'll live as prisoners.

Slave labour for the lot of them!

709998 2008-10-06 07:48:00 Im not saying it is wrong . . . . . . . . . . . . . i just cant see where the money is going to come from for the health, tax cuts and whatnot that these parties are promising . . . . . . . . where is it all going to come from? our pockets? but if they give tax cuts, they will get less, so they will cut something else?

i beleive that repeat offenders shouldnt get out for a long time . . . . . . . . . . .

but i also think even if we locked them all up, the new generation coming thro is going to replace those bad guys, and each generation following will replace those others too, the cycle doesnt end, even if we put them away for ever . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :( there is alway some new bad guy on the street .

709999 2008-10-06 07:52:00 I'm feeling some hate for the system, Think I'm going to refrain from voting.

710000 2008-10-06 07:54:00 There's only an average of about $600 million in each budget for a government to be discretionary with - the rest is pretty much spoken for in each spending year. Deane F (8204)
710001 2008-10-06 08:00:00 Perhaps we need to relocate money from the grievance industry to the incarceration industry instead. Almost the same demograph, Just the method of extortion is different.

And I'm pretty sure the casual billion wasted on train scrap could have been better spent.

710002 2008-10-06 08:24:00 As everyone has a view on how tax money should be spent, there is bound to be some disagreement on the actual doing of.

Then of coarse there is the actual inefficiency of the the departments, such as health, education etc..
The waste makes you want to cry.

The bureaucrats rule.
