I just created an Outlook message in RTF format with a 10k GIF in the body and a couple of lines of text. When it was sent it turned into a 1mb message!
Does anyone know (a) why this is and (b) how I can reduce the message size but still retain the capability to insert an mage? |

Pretty sure you'll find that putting a GIF in the body of an RTF document in Outlook / Word will cause it to get saved in windows metafile format within the document as well as the compressed GIF copy. |

OK, as a test I converted my GIF to WMF (outside of Outlook) and it went from 10k to 754 k - but that still leaves about 300k unaccounted for if the WMF is stored in the body together with the GIF. |

And .rtf will add formatting info which probably explains the rest. |
