2009-11-07 19:54:00 | Does anybody know of a simple little Appointment Programme that will pop up on screen straight after Windows starts when the computer is turned on in the morning? Ok, Im retired, so I dont have daily appointments but it would be handy to have a programme where you could programme in say a Doctors Appointment for the following month and if you had forgotten about it a reminder would pop up when you turned the computer on in the morning. There must be other forgetful old sods like myself out there?

2009-11-07 19:56:00 | I guess you don't have Outlook then as it has a great calendar function, there is a free calender made by the people who make Thunderbird I think its called Sunbird will do what you want. Alternatively the gmail calendar can be set up to send text message reminders and its Free | gary67 (56) | |

One of the reasons I have never used it is years ago was that I was told to give it a miss as it was a resource hungry monster and thus I went to Outlook Express. Anyway, I just opened it up to have a look (no I didnt make it my default E-Mail client ;)) and the checked my CPU usage which was a modest 2% and that was with Skype running in the background. Anyway, Ill be cautious and wait to see if others have any comments on it. :thanks |

2009-11-07 23:35:00 | I have been running Outlook for about 4 years and have never had a resource issue with it. I use it for emails, task lists and calender. Click to add an appointment and also set the remider to whatever and you will get a popup, not sure if Outlook has to be running though | gary67 (56) | |
2009-11-07 23:38:00 | Outlook does have to be open if you want the pop-up reminders to work. | Jen (38) | |
2009-11-08 00:02:00 | I have been using ATNotes for a number of years. It is simple to use. I work as a bus driver four days on and four days off. I have set it to go off at 6:30am on the first day of duty. It plays the theme from the TV program 'You are on the Buses'. It also reminds me to get timesheets in (I use a grumpy, recorded voice). Good for birthdays, etc. Try it by going to atnotes.free.fr

2009-11-08 08:59:00 | You could put Outlook in your start-up folder so it always starts when you turn on your computer and if you schedule all your appointments and events and set reminders for them, they'll show up as soon as they are due. You could do this with Sunbird too or any other calendar program as long as you added it to the Startup folder. Alternatively, you could set-up all your events in Google Calendar and then embed the calendar onto your desktop (as a background image) so that would be the first thing that you see when your computer starts up.
