712610 2008-10-16 08:08:00 Ring them and complain Speedy Gonzales (78)
712611 2008-10-16 08:22:00 In the instructions ( if it has any) or advertising, does it say anything like "Leaves floor dry after use" or any indication on how long you may have to wait - if it does its false advertising and you have rights. Yep Ring and complain wainuitech (129)
712612 2008-10-16 08:30:00 Some stores may allow you to return goods if you change your mind but not too many. (They usually have a sign saying so.)

Did one of the salesmen say, or did the instructions say, that the floor would be left wet and for how long?

Alternately, did a salesman or the instructions say that once cleaned the floor it would be dry?

If no-one told you to expect a dry floor, then you don't have a complaint. But if you were led to believe that the floor would be dry (and you can point to that person and you have a witness) you have a valid complaint and they may let you return it, but not necessarily for a refund. They may choose to give you a credit instead.

Its called the Consumers' Guarantee Act. Look here: www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz

Unfortunately, I don't think that you have much of a chance.

Sorry, Cic.

712613 2008-10-16 08:51:00 How fast did you move the mop?
Faster means the floor is cooler = less evaporation

712614 2008-10-16 17:40:00 Pal bought the Shark, you may have seen it on TV.
He found it did a good job,but a bit flimsy.
I found this other one which is much sturdier machine, but,it leaves floor wet, and so I rang and complained,I was told not to pull steam switch to much,as that was causing excess water on floor.I think if I use less steam as suggested then I am spreading colder water about and consequently slow drying.
The Shark dries after use in about 20 sec as apposed to half an hour.
Shark $200 mine $180.

712615 2008-10-17 00:11:00 If you bought it through direct marketing - ie: mail order, from an 0800 number etc - then by law you have a 30 day right of return.

Otherwise, take it back to the shop and say that you are not happy with it. The Consumer Guarantees Act allows you to choose between remedy or refund of there is a "failure of substantial character" which is basically a failure to do what it was represented by a salesperson or advertising as being able to do - or a failure to do what you were advised that it was suitable for. If it is one of those two then you are on steady ground.

Just trying to find out my position in law.
I intend to take it back, but suspect they will suggest it is doing the job.
I bought from The Cleaners warehouse in Ferry Rd,they tend to see themselves as the expert on these matters.
