712294 2008-10-14 22:00:00 Hey all,

So as you know I used to be homeschooled, my younger siblings are currently. Its been years, but now they're onto the sorta stuff I used to do, so when they cant figure out X, they ask me when I drop by during school hours.

Problem is this one has me horribly stumped!

We looked up the answer in the answer booklet, but dont know how to arrive at the answer.

So, my challenge to all you out there in Internet Land:
Solve it, come up with the right answer, and then see if you can tell us how you arrived at the correct answer too ;)

Good luck

Chill.

712295 2008-10-14 22:02:00 I've forgotten how to solve those equations already, and it was only 2 1/2 years ago! :dogeye: Going to a friend's place on Thursday night, I'll give it to the guys there and see if they can work it out. wratterus (105)

712298 2008-10-14 22:11:00 There's no x in the equation? sammo450 (13626)
712299 2008-10-14 22:37:00 34?

Used a calculator. I'm not to sure how to put that cube root(?) into the calc though..

712300 2008-10-14 22:47:00 LOL, that's not mathematics, that just a simple arithmetic, neither is it an equation, it's just a numerical expression to evaluate. "You" should be able to do it in your head in a few seconds.... calculators... what is the world coming to? :)

A clue, the cube root of -8 is -2.

712303 2008-10-15 00:04:00 Yep I think you're onto it there Terry. Cube roots aren't hard to put in a calculator. If you have scientific calculator. sammo450 (13626)
