829509 2009-11-12 04:41:00 Yes, there is plenty of them, however some I guess will be better than others so I thought I'd check with the experts. B.M. (505)

829511 2009-11-12 06:24:00 Well for mp3 duplicates I use the free similarity mp3 finder (pcsourcepoint.blogspot.com) (my review) - matches title, embedded tags (if any), and sound/music. Has a sensitivity setting, can play matched results (for verification), and displays percent similarity for content and tags. kahawai chaser (3545)
829512 2009-11-12 08:28:00 The one I liked the best is Easy Duplicate Finder (http://www.easyduplicatefinder.com/). Free and with good reviews. FoxyMX (5)

Wow! does the program bring up some duplicates, it tells me there are 9,250 + 18,891 originals and duplicates.

As the bulk are temp internet files, I have copied Emprun from the other pc to get rid of those and will re-run easyduplicate.

Lurking.

You win, I only got about 3000.

So what I did was create a Junk folder and moved (As opposed to deleting) the duplicates into there just in case. ;)

I’ve got about 4gig of Drivers and the like that I’ve downloaded over the years and I couldn’t believe how many were the same drivers with different names. Soft Modem drivers were a prime example, followed by Audio, Video, and Chipset drivers.

There were a fair few Photo’s too which had been copied to different folders.

Anyway I’m quite impressed with Easy Duplicate Finder, but, as with all of these programmes you have to take care as I can see it causing havoc if a cavalier approach were taken. ;)

829515 2009-11-17 03:35:00 In managing the results, how do you get on should you have two identical files but each of them being relied upon by completely different programs. i.e. can you identify dependencies.?
Mp3, jpg etc. are obvious but others???

Personally, I leave anything that appears in two or more applications.

My rationale is that it probably needs to be there as the application is unable to seek a Library file should there even be one.

However, I’m no expert, but following that procedure I’ve had no strife so far. :clap
