828895 2009-11-10 22:12:00 I have upgraded to FF 3.5.5 but now when I close it the computor restarts. I have run AVG but part way through the scanning the computor shut down and restarted. The same happened when dfragging. Any suggestion? I am unable to remove FF as uninstall just brings up a blue DOS panel which dissappears very quickly peterdb (10059)
828896 2009-11-10 22:17:00 Doesn't sound like it is a software issue.
I would download Memtest and test the RAM and then test the hard drive for bad sectors.

828897 2009-11-12 03:30:00 Thanks but I found it was AVG ( free anti-virus.) peterdb (10059)
828898 2009-11-12 03:31:00 No surprises there, AVG is hopeless. Link scanner or something playing up was it? If you can, buy NOD32. Otherwise installe Microsoft security essentials or Avast Home. wratterus (105)
828899 2009-11-12 03:40:00 Great. If AVG isnt deleting files by accident, it crashes the system just to make sure you cant use it  Speedy Gonzales (78)
828900 2009-11-12 04:53:00 Great. If AVG isnt deleting files by accident, it crashes the system just to make sure you cant use it  AVG is working well then ?? One way to make sure you dont get infections - disable the PC :D wainuitech (129)
828901 2009-11-12 08:34:00 Used to always install AVG free but not for a while now. It went the way of Zone Alarm - banished forever. Bit like pre 2010 Nortons, really!! linw (53)
828902 2009-11-16 04:25:00 False alarm on AVG. It appears to be Firefox 3.5.5 Using Opera or Chrome no problem even with latest AVG Installed. peterdb (10059)
828903 2009-11-16 04:40:00 Try disabling addons? Then if that works, enable them one by one. the_bogan (9949)

This is a BSOD (blue screen of death), which can be informative as to the reason for crashing, you need to turn off Auto-restart (press Windows key and pause/break key, (then Advanced Properties in the LH menu then Advanced tab then Settings (under Startup & Recovery) in Vista)), the Advanced tab (in the System Properties window) then as above, in XP). Write down what the BSOD says, and post it here.
Alternatively, check the Event Viewer (go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools) for any errors about the time of your crash.
Also would do as Cyabro said, would definitely suspect ram and/or HDD in this.
