| 713934 | 2008-10-27 00:32:00 | I just use PC Tools Firewall Plus, seems to work fine, not nearly as annoying as Comodo or ZA. | Netsukeninja (13296) | ||
| 713935 | 2008-10-27 00:45:00 | I was filing my Consumer magazine issues yesterday, accumulated over the last few months. The May 2008 issue did a review of Security Suites. Unsurprisingly CA and Norton scored low (but McAfee didn't!!!). ZA SS wasn't even included, but the one that topped their pick, was one I'd never heard of: G DATA Internet Security 2008. They also recommended Bitdefender and F-Secure. However when I read the "But..." disclaimer after the "Good Points", typical comments were: 'slows performance for some files', 'DoS vulnerability found'... Also, G DATA apparently has an issue that you are "unable to reinstall the software after a cancelled installation"!!! The only standalone firewalls they tested were Ashampoo Firewall Free, Comodo Firewall Pro and Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free (another I have never heard of). They recommended Ashampoo, but noted it doesn't play with Vista and "bombards you with advertising emails". Why the f*** would they recommend it then!!! There are plenty of free firewalls out there that behave themselves - why pick these three alone??? You'd think a reputable organisation like Consumer would utilise a wider range of popular programs than they chose, especially given their likely audience of Average Joes... Perhaps Consumer should leave computer security reviews to specialist services (or even ask on this Forum for opinions!! :) ).... |
