We have two computers, mine and my wife's. I have a USB external hard drive plugged into mine principally for backing up. Is there a way to share the external drive between the two computers without having to physically disconnect from the one computer and attaching it to the other? If so, could you describe exactly what i need to do. Thanks :) |

Whats the OS on the host PC ??
You can usually right click the drive and share as any other device. Depending on the OS will depend on the process to share. |

As long as the two computers are connected to the same LAN via A router, and can see one another over My network Places, right click the External drive in My Computer, sharing and security / under sharing tab - if This wording (www.imagef1.net.nz) is there, click it, enable sharing / then Tick these (www.imagef1.net.nz) - apply /OK and it should be shared. The other PC should now see it under my network places. |

click <Start>right click <Computor> select <properties> you change it there if required. Dosnt matter what you name the workgroup so long as both computors are the same. |
