830115 2009-11-14 08:14:00 I am trying to connect the usb and audio features of a bay mounted multifunction panel to my ASUS A8N-VM CSM MB.
There are 4 connectors for the USB: GND, D+, D- and VCC The USB connection on the MB has 9 pins: USB +5V (x2) USB P5, USB P6, USB P5+, USB P6+, GND (x2) and NC. Which connects to which?
There are 9 audio connectors: MIC-L, MIC-R, FRONT-L FRONT-REAR-L, REAR-R, GND, BASS, CENTER.
The audio connection on the MB has PORT1 L, GND. PORT1 R, PRESENCE#, PORT2 R, SENSE1 RETUR, SENSE_SEND, PORT2 L, SENSE2 RETUR

or the legacy definition is: MIC2-L, AGND, MIC2-R, NC, line out R, NC, NC, line out L, NC.
So help please, which connects to which?

830116 2009-11-14 08:32:00 Are the USB connectors in 2 blocks of 4?? Or separate?? If the latter, black is ALWAYS GND. On both row of pins. (Make sure you dont put these on a firewire header, on the mobo, as its got 9 pins too (you'll fry the system, if you do).The connection on the mobo is HD, but the cable is AC97.

Heres info about the audio (www.intel.com)

830117 2009-11-14 08:54:00 The USB connectors (4 wires) are separate. Power is supplied to the front panel. What is D+, D- and VCC? bpt2 (6653)
830118 2009-11-14 09:06:00 D+ etc are just names for the USB connections on the USB header. I would read your manual for the mobo. It'll show you what goes where on the mobo.

This may help (www.frontx.com)

830119 2009-11-14 09:28:00 Do I just ignore bass and center? bpt2 (6653)
830120 2009-11-14 09:40:00 Didnt it come with a manual?? Whats the name of this thing, and where did you buy it from?? Only 6 wires are used. It didnt come with an AC97 / HD adapter did it?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
830121 2009-11-14 10:55:00 It's on eof these: www.ioffer.com bpt2 (6653)
830122 2009-11-14 11:21:00 Where in NZ are you?? It'd probably be better if you live near someone in the forum. So, they can connect it for you. Its a bit hard to explain what goes where, if it didnt come with a manual. Altho the mobo manual should show the connections on the mobo Speedy Gonzales (78)
830123 2009-11-14 11:37:00 I'm actually in South Australia, but used to live in NZ and have always found this forum most helpful. bpt2 (6653)
830124 2009-11-14 11:48:00 Ok, I would say the USB would be like this

VCC - + GND
VCC - + GND

Theyre the same on both rows. Dont worry about the 5th pin on the top row. Its not used. +5 is VCC. Turn it off (obviously) before you do this.

Did you read the link I posted in post 2? For audio?
