The official watchdog, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has been conducting laboratory tests of six filtering products, and the government plans a live trial soon.

ISP filtering is the blocking of certain sites which the government deems illegal or inappropriate, and is the central plank of the Rudd government's "Plan for Cyber-Safety".

714904 2008-10-26 04:29:00 Typical over the top Aussies.
I you dont vote in Aussie you get fined.
Their cops and even security guards carry guns.
Their OSH regs are even worse than UK ones
Illegal immigrants get locked up in detention camps in wop wop.
Their car regs are so draconian you couldnt even bring in a home market jap import car.
Because they dont meet ADRs Aus desin regs. Making a hotrod in some states is about impossible.
So the Oz govt filtering all Oz ISPs for porn dosent amaze me too much.

714905 2008-10-26 04:31:00 It's a step in the wrong direction, and sets a terrible precedent for other western liberal democracies. somebody (208)
714906 2008-10-26 04:43:00 that is quite a severe sort of act, but to any nation that can get used to having Aussie neighbours on all sides, just a mere trifle. ;) R2x1 (4628)
714907 2008-10-26 05:21:00 "Censorship creep may afflict the net filtering system say critics"Which is exactly the point I was trying to get across in this thread (forums.pcworld.co.nz).

"Any determined user - including children - could bypass the filter quickly using an anonymizer service," says the No Internet Censorship for Australia site. :D

714908 2008-10-26 06:02:00 Big as Oz is I don't think it would make an effective firewall I will keep my software one for now and keep an eye on this developing story.
