714816 2008-10-25 19:58:00 My Hard drive is 500 gigs.

It is getting full.

I can get a 750 gig or a 1 Tera Byte ! ?

What do you think.

To me it is astounding to believe that I should be able to afford such a device, when only a few years ago an 80 gig hard drive was big !

714817 2008-10-25 20:15:00 I've got a couple of 1TB drives in my NAS device running in RAID1.
TV Server has a 400GB drive.
160GB portable USB drive.
Laptop has 160GB.

1.5TB drives are available now too

714818 2008-10-25 21:30:00 I have 3x250GB in my main PC, and a 160GB external.

I will soon be upgrading to 2x500 and 1x1000 in my main machine - with the old ones being used as externals.

So I'd go for whatever you can afford :D

1TB Seagates are about $280 from Ascent ATM IIRC

714823 2008-10-25 22:35:00 On this PC it has a HUGE 80Gb :banana with 23Gb used - most of my stuff is actually spread out over 2 servers which have various size drives with important stuff in duplicates on each server that synchronize so if one goes belly up I always have a backup, just change the path in the shortcut. wainuitech (129)
714824 2008-10-25 22:36:00 Man, you guys have big ones.

I only have 280GB (well, around 260GB usable) and I still have about 100GB free.

714825 2008-10-25 22:39:00 Its not the size that matters, it's what you do with it.

sneaks off to caress my 40Gb to see if it will grow a bit bigger
