2008-10-25 08:49:00 | My Xbox 360 is away getting fixed because it decided to show me 3 red lights. What cooling unit should I get to stop this from happening again? Yes I know I should have got a PS3. Thanks Jeff.

2008-10-28 00:18:00 | Xbox cooling - one of M$'s most epic failures. Almost on a par with the Macbook Air. Keep it elevated, keep it on it's side and have a fan or something blowing cold air on it. If I had one I think the side of the case would have to stay open, and I'd mount 12cm PC case fans all over it. They also dislike being in cabinets etc.

2008-10-28 00:37:00 | Heed my warning. After market coolers can be more trouble than what they are worth. Most coolers operate by drawing power from the Xbox to power the coolers fans. This can bring around extra work for the power supply potentially stressing it out, making it generate more power than what it was made for. Just keep it in an area where there is decent air flow, and if you have to have some sort of cooling try and devise a cooler that uses an external power source. This is the reason why Microsoft will decline you for a warranty if you use hardware made by 3rd party vendors.

2008-10-28 00:56:00 | check out the december issue of PCW, I'm ripping apart an xbox and putting it in an erxternal enclosure from Lian Li, for better cooling and quieter operation. | Jan Birkeland (4741) | |
2008-10-28 04:29:00 | Thanks for your posts. I have looked on the forums on www.xbox.co.nz and most of them recommend not bothering with 3rd party fan units. Just to make sure there is good air flow around it so the hot air gets away and not feed back through it. I think a will purchase a cheap small fan to insure good air flow around the unit. I had it horizontal and there is plenty of space around it. Hopefully they will have fixed the problem. Thanks Jeff.
