830884 2009-11-17 03:09:00 Hi
thinking of putting together a quad core computer, i wont be using it for gaming so sli, crossfire support not needed. but i want to have a dedicated graphic card.
so naturally i am only looking for graphic card, best value for money quad core, good motherboard, and >=500gb hdd. i am going to use my exiting atx case. budget is about $1000.

previously i bought parts and assembled it myself but now i see there are ready made system which are quiet cheap.
so far i came across
www.xpcomputers.co.nz

what do you guys think?

830885 2009-11-17 03:10:00 I personally don't trust those guys, look at Ascent, ComputerLounge, PBTech or Playtech.

There is also no way under the sun the PSU they have included is powerful enough to run that system properly, and the graphics card is not the best. Get an Asus or Gigabyte card and motherboard, and a minimum of a good 460W PSU.

830887 2009-11-17 03:31:00 XP computers are alright, I've been there a few times. The only thing they need to watch is their site. Since it was hacked, not so long ago Speedy Gonzales (78)
830888 2009-11-17 23:48:00 i think q8400 is pretty good value for money, but i see ddr 3 chips out too. is it worth getting a qmb.co.nz and a motherboard that takes them. gum digger (6100)
830889 2009-11-18 00:11:00 In regard to your HDD, I would get a 128GB SSD for the OS and a 500GB-1TB HDD for data. If you use the preset windows folders (Documents, Music, Video etc) you can move the location of them to the other drive rather than the windows drive.

Also DDR3 ram is coming down in price so it is worth getting and you should defiantly get Win7.

830891 2009-11-18 02:00:00 I bought my quad at the wrong time. AMD Phenom X4 9550 2.2GHz for $299. I'm hurting now after seeing the prices of Phenom 2s. sammo450 (13626)
