830699 2009-11-16 04:54:00 Hey bringing up my topic about how to reinstall a compaq ipaq desktop. forums.pcworld.co.nz
Finally had a reason to reinstall it to be a place to store movies to play through my tv. Tried to use an external dvd drive and BartPE on usb but it does not boot off USB. So tried copying contents of current hard drive to a bigger one but it wont boot. Anything extra I have to do to make it boot? Is there a way that i can somehow deliver an image to the pc through pxe?

830700 2009-11-16 06:53:00 This might work (uses Debian and WinPE)

www.dailydigitals.com

or this: etherboot.org

But I think since that PC uses a normal hard drive, you could open it and connect a normal CD drive also?

830702 2009-11-16 07:43:00 can not boot a cd nedkelly (9059)
830703 2009-11-16 10:01:00 Are you saying the BIOS has no CD boot support?

Can the motherboard run a floppy drive, can you boot from that? Use something like smart boot manager from floppy to load the CD - or even make windows setup boot floppies?

Other than that, you can probably copy the installation files to the hard drive and boot from that then run from there?

830704 2009-11-16 19:30:00 The pc is a Compaq iPaq Desktop. Is there anything special I have to to do make the hard drive boot? Because as I said I copied the contents of the current hard drive to the new one. And it still wont boot. nedkelly (9059)
830705 2009-11-16 20:28:00 How did you copy the HDD, because if you just copied the files with Windows etc then it won't have copied the bootloader or made the partition active etc.

If you used Ghost or such it should have worked
