Every policy announcement I hear from John Key contains more detail about how much money a National government would spend. So where will this money come from I wonder? Not from tax cuts. I remember my advice,if thee as nowt nice to say,say nowt. God bless you Deano. |

If you think there is some similarity between communist Russian politics and this Labour government then lets hear it. What are some of the similarities? My prediction is that you won't answer the question because you cannot. You may dress up your non-answer with some quip - but it will be a non-answer. But hell, surprise me. |

| 714332 | 2008-10-26 22:12:00 | As they used to say on "Listen With Mother" in the UK, if you are sitting comfortably, then I'll begin........ ...especially for those for whom 1990 is in the dark ages.....or who were not around then, this also relates to the Kim Hill Thread...... When we came to NZ in 1977, there was a National Governement under Muldoon , that was somewhat to the left of Mao Zedong or Tse-Tung if you prefer. The country was the most regulated and controlled outside of the Eastern Block. However I could see that Muldoon was trying to protect the country from the slings and arrows of the outside world, and having just come from UK where the left were trying to overthrow the judiciary, flying pickets were beating people up etc, and the reds had come out from under the beds under the Wilson regime, I was impressed with what Piggy was trying to do. So I became a National card carrying member. Then in 1984 we had a Labour Government that was somewhat to the right of Ghengis Khan, along with Regan and Thatcher, and politics and economics went all topsy turvy. We saw the greed resulting in the 1987 market crash, we saw 180,000 unemployed, manufacturing crippled, Quality Assurance went out the window, and by 1990, not only had Lange had enough with his famous cup of tea, but the people of the land had had enough too. But, being stupid, as most of the populous always are around election time, they thought that National would reverse the extreme right wing policies of Douglas. They turned a completely deaf ear to the utterances of Ruth Richardson, things like education vouchers, privatisation of health and so on. So we had the 1990 National Government of Jim (we are part of Asia) Bolger, and this links to the Kim Hill Thread that Cic trolled up :) Of course, National had to be more right wing than the Fish and Chip brigade had been in order to distinguish themselves from the other lot. We had Richardson producing her "Mother of all Budgets" in which she tore up our government superannuation fund contracts, slashed payouts, worked a cunning tax revamp on GSF for which we are still paying way over the odds. Then we had Shipley declare that if over 65 and ill you were not sick but suffering from senility. Then we had young Upton dismantle DSIR and effectively destroy science as a career. This is getting too long, noone will read it............:nerd: |
