830679 2009-11-16 21:52:00 ok I've had a bit of a rethink and come up with this:

ASUS P7P55D INTEL P55 CORE I7/I5 DDR3 LGA1156 PCI-E
INTEL CORE I5 750 LYNNFIELD 2.66GHZ 8MB LGA1156
SUPERTALENT GOLD SERIES 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL9
GIGABYTE ATI HD4890 OC 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 1TB 7200.12 32MB SATA II
LG GH-22LS50 22X LIGHTSCRIBE BLACK SATA DVD WRITER
ANTEC 300 GAMING CASE
CORSAIR HX620 620W MODULAR POWER SUPPLY
LOGITECH ULTRA FLAT KEYBOARD
LG W2261V 21.5" 20000:1 1080P FULL HD 2MS HDMI LCD MONITOR
TP-LINK TL-WN651G 108M WIRELESS PCI CARD

$1948.80 incl. build from Computer Lounge

So I'd be ditching AMD, aftermarket cooling, proper crossfire support and a 5xxx graphics card in favour of an i5 and a better albeit 4xxx card. Also supertalent ram instead of corsair and overall a savings of $85.

It's mostly for gaming but nothing too hardcore or bleeding edge, I just want it to last me for a while.

Is this a better setup and/or a better deal?

830680 2009-11-16 22:16:00 Looks good to me, what about the OS though? You could save a few $$ by going to a non modular PSU, but having the modular is nice. wratterus (105)
830681 2009-11-17 01:48:00 Having a smaller sized case, I'd probably stick with the modular. It's nice to get as much airflow going through there as possible. Nothing wrong with having a small case though, that's a good one, too.

It all looks good though. It'll be plenty powerful for most games and it's not ridiculously overspec'd or anything. I'd be happy to have that as my rig.

830682 2009-11-17 04:17:00 Great, thanks for all your help guys! I think the system is much improved and even slightly cheaper, going to go ahead and order :D Edd20 (15435)
830683 2009-11-17 04:25:00 You wont regret it! hueybot3000 (3646)

If you can, don't use the TP-Link wfi pci card. Got one 2 weeks ago, the reception is bad, overall performance is poor. Have tried both the USB and PCI. They are all the same. Use Netgear or even Dlink is better.

830685 2009-11-17 04:47:00 thanks bk T, good to know, will swap it out in that case Edd20 (15435)
830686 2009-11-17 05:05:00 I'd swap the keyboard for a normal logitech one.

Don't like slim keys for gaming (personal preference)

830687 2009-11-17 07:12:00 Ideally you should just run a massive ethernet cable to wherever you need your computer, but I don't know how practical that might be for you. Works for me... I got sick of stupidly framey online gaming and ran the monster cable out. Thebananamonkey (7741)
830688 2009-11-17 09:03:00 I'm used to using laptop keyboards so i prefer the flat/slim types personally.

Running a cable wouldn't be practical in my situation, but I'm happy enough with wireless performance anyway.
