Cyber criminals are earning up to $US150,000 a week selling fake anti-virus software to naive internet users, confidential documents obtained by a US security researcher reveal.

717342 2008-11-04 09:29:00 They work from the "shock / Fear" factor - (and NO not the TV program :) ) that many people suddenly get a POP up saying they have x Number of infections and pay $$ to have the software remove it.

Bit like the junk mail - "Click here to unsubscribe" - yeah right, unsubscribe to something you never subscribed to in the first place.

Social engineering is fascinating and it is amazing what some people are willing to hand over when you start being 'helpful and friendly'

My understanding is that if you "click here to unsubscribe" you are confirming that your email address is a good one worthy of their spamming efforts.:waughh:
