| 717082 | 2008-11-04 00:28:00 | The new CPU throttles back the speed when it draws too much current. Bad news for overclockers: "Apparently, Intel is not so happy that buyers are purchasing inexpensive yet highly overclockable CPUs instead of the higher priced and faster models. To put a stop to the practice, Intel has ensured that only the $1,000 high-end model will operate beyond the TDP barrier of 130 W (110 A). The less expensive Core i7 versionsthe 920 and 940will begin throttling back their clock speeds once they reach this threshold. Sadly, it looks like the days in which a $150 CPU is able to reach the performance of a $1,000 processor are overat least for now. While small tweaks are still possible, major performance increases through overclocking are no longer an option." from here www.tomshardware.com |

| 717086 | 2008-11-04 04:49:00 | I'd be happy with 3.8Ghz... :) Esp if it's 30% faster than equivalent C2D clocks. |

| 717087 | 2008-11-04 05:06:00 | Well, it's not going to affect me, at least not this year or maybe even next year. But if they keep this kind of **** up, I'm going to be a pretty annoyed Intel fanboy. |

| 717091 | 2008-11-04 20:01:00 | The silly thing is, the extreme is 3.2Ghz right, the lowest @ present 2.66ghz (920), you dont need to exceed the TDP to reach 3.8Ghz anyway so you can still clock the slower less expensive cpu beyond the flagship cpu speed...?? It doesnt make sense? | SolMiester (139) | ||
