Brutal punishment has been handed down to criminals in every society for all of history - hanging, drawing, quartering, garotting, dismembering, burning alive, boiling to death - the list goes on. Harsh times/harsh crimes call for a harsh response, If they didn't do what they could to make crime an uncomfortable past time they would have had mayhem. The crims would have run riot. Then as now they would have exploited any bleeding heart misguided do-gooder seeking to save them, Rapist and killers don't care who you were before they slit your throat and rape your family. Well, I believe bad parents breed bad kids, as demonstrated by the back grounds of dozens of NZ's worst criminals, However I don't blame society for that, Its still a person who brings up a twisted child who goes onto perform twisted deeds. Once again Metla I couldn't agree more. There is no logic behind using tax payer's money to keep criminals alive when it could be used to help benefit those of use who are law abiding citizens. Today we live in a society where we have to be so bloody politically correct that it is destroying us from the inside out. When someone (a criminal) makes a conscience decision to rape, brutalize, and murder someone, they have given up their chance of being treated as a law abiding citizen should. They didn't accidently rape someone, it takes a deliberate choice, and once the crimimal has chosen this way of life there should be no more pitty parties for them. They should be executed like the scum they are. Once again, New Zealand needs their own version of a Hitler/Stalin to clean our society from the scum and crooks that are the parasites leeching resources from our nation at a time of financial crisis.
