717653 2008-11-05 08:39:00 And let's hope that 28 years of the rot setting in that started with Reagan in 1980 is finally over and we can get back to core socialist values at last, to develop the world and away from the mad capitalist vision of endless growth and resource exploitation without counting the costs.
And what party did Clinton belong to?

717654 2008-11-05 08:44:00 I think there is some reason to be concerned about this outcome.

Vladimir Putin made it known that he hoped for an Obama win -

Why would he want that - perhaps he wants a free hand to sabre rattle with his neighbours like he has with Georgia.

717655 2008-11-05 09:05:00 Clinton was doing quite a good job until the repubs caught him out with Monica, they only like soliciting in public toilets and the like, call girls, male prostitutes/trainers etc.

Bush on the other hand is responsible for Afghanistan, Iraq, countless deaths of innocent people and feathering the nests of his cronies in the military industrial complex, there are already rumours that with the run away Obama victory Bush and his henchmen may be impeached, roll on that day, they should all be tarred and feathered before being executed for high treason.

717656 2008-11-05 09:08:00 There are so many nut cases in the right wing that it is likely Obama will suffer the same fate as the Kennedys, he is a lot like them and commanding the same sort of ecstatic responses from the followers.

The last thing the right wing want is genuine feeling.

717657 2008-11-05 09:13:00 When the election is over and the dust settles, a recession will hit the advertising industry. R2x1 (4628)
717658 2008-11-05 10:55:00 I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Negroes, Jews, Italians or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the American dream -- a dream yet unfulfilled. A dream of equality of opportunity, of privilege and property widely distributed; a dream of a land where men will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few; a dream of a land where men will not argue that the color of a man's skin determines the content of his character; a dream of a nation where all our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone, but as instruments of service for the rest of humanity; the dream of a country where every man will respect the dignity and worth of the human personality - Martin Luther King, Jr. zqwerty (97)

Thats all good in all and I think everyone would agree with this but Martin Luther King,Jr was assassinated, and America is still a very racist country.

But I am glad he has won and I hope he does get the chance to do what he wants/needs to do.

717660 2008-11-05 18:45:00 From my side of the Equator and just as an observer, I have to side with Metla here . (Gawk?!? Really?!?)

He said:
America will continue to look after its own interests (as perceived by America), as it has always done, How the flow on effects us has nothing to do with who is in office .

He's, of course very right . Metla, that is . The words: "Metla" and "right" don't usually run in the same sentence by me so this may be a momentous occasion for everyone . (Hey Met: Is my promised beer still cold in your fridge for when I visit NZ?)

NO president can set policy . Taxes, welfare, citizen's "rights", military attitudes (notice I said: "attitudes") and other campaign promises are just so much smoke and mirrors .

[FYI: the seated president CAN call a "police-action" or a full war, but it is rife with checks and balances . Congress holds the president to very narrow rules of engagement, but if the congress is made up of a very high number of same-sided publicans, then that control is moot . ]

The real seat of power and change, if any, therefor comes from the congress .

People who rallied for Obama because of promises to cut taxes and make vast changes to social programs fool themselves . Since the "new" congress is now mostly Democratic-based (Obama's party), it will lean that way, but don't expect changes in just one presidential term — it takes a lot more to move cold tar .

Mostly, taxes are figured on a state-by-state level where the taxes are higher because of consumer taxes on items at the cash-register and not on a Federal Income Tax form . It only appears that the feds take a larger lump out as it's on a one page form and not insidiously ingrained in every sales transaction .

OK — just observing here — but Obama and McCain are really the same people . They would not be in the position they are in unless they were groomed and "educated" in the way (emphasis on "way") of things-political .

Somehow the words: "The Great Satan" look logical now — right?

Remember when Prez Clinton decided to work on re-establishing the Palestine State? All hell broke loose: he had bimbos falling outta the closet and from under his desk and he got very dirty doing things that the office normally can and does cover up and keep out of the public eye .

After he reneged on his . . . er . . . Palestinian Miss-Speak, things got calm again although collateral damage had been done and he was out of the bag .

I don't vote — for reasons that have been bandied about here before — but as an observer closer to the system (posit: US) I can say that indeed US policy affects everyone, worldwide-wise, and it does not make a wit of difference whose name is on the door .

If the US is myopic, catarrh-ed and less socially benevolent now — as it will now be with renewed gusto— it is unfortunate for smaller and less armed and military-ed countries as now there is new momentum to get the US back on track no matter whose toes and shins get whacked in the peri-intercontinental markets .

The US is in survival mode right now trying to avert another Great Depression and I see nothing but more grief and cost escalations to youse guys .

I apologize and am truly sorry for the mess, but I didn't do it .

For info only:

Watch the "BIG THREE" US auto makers . When they fail, things are really gonna change .

I also expect to see the tax-exempt status of the churches to be removed; it's about time!

717661 2008-11-05 18:49:00 Like Mets sez - wtf cares?

I think that he will be the next Kennedy - whether it's through leadership, or because the KKK would have taken him out, I can't say

717662 2008-11-05 18:51:00 How many hundred million dollars did that election cost .

The news talking heads are all waxing metaphorically and prolifically here on US TV .

I just saw an answer — albeit tongue-in-cheek — that the elections cost about 5 billion dollars but that the US eats 6 billion dollars worth of potato chips a year . (NewZelandese = "crisps")

Go figger .
