2008-11-03 20:09:00 | What if the bar was raised just above your head demonhunter? Maybe the test is something as simple as determining those that know the difference between their and there should be allowed to vote? Goes for the personal jab - congrats. besides it was 6am and I have been up for nearly 48 hours so i have an excuse :p

2008-11-03 20:24:00 | I don't really think it would achieve a lot. Not a bad idea by any means, but probably a waste of time and resources. Not that wasting time are resources would be hard for the government to do, they live for that.

2008-11-03 21:25:00 | I can tell you what would happen - its hard enough now to get some people out to vote on the day - they could be away, forgot, to busy, or it's raining and dont want to go out etc : throw in a test that says if you are eligible to vote or not and that would turn even more people away in fear of being seen as a failure or not bright enough. | wainuitech (129) | |
2008-11-03 21:29:00 | Democracy: 10 wise men and eleven idiots. That is why politicians play to the lowest common denominator. That is why NZ has the selection of low calibre politicians it has. That is why NZ has Sue Bradford, Winston Peters etc etc

Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time. Sir Winston Churchill would not agree with you. Why didn't the thread just end here? You just can't top this. |

2008-11-04 00:39:00 | We already deny voting to those deemed mentally incapable. All that demonhunter is proposing is to 'raise the bar' so to speak. Questions such as: 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17 - what is the next number? Presumably it's 19 or 21. I'd be interested in your logic though (assuming this wasn't the result of 2 typos)
