717851 2008-11-10 20:40:00 Just more power to make a differance. This is the part that is not happening at the moment.

Big call right there.

This chick may have a screw loose, but we have nothing to say that most Judges aren't doing the best they can.

Or do you have anything to back that up?

717852 2008-11-10 21:30:00 Not so much of a big call, how many times do you read of killers/rapists getting fairly light sentences? Or have i misread/understood and they just enforce the sentence but not give it? rob_on_guitar (4196)

Like any job, sometimes they get it wrong. They can't execute everyone who walks through the door.

If I get something wrong in my job, someone can't log in to a database. If they do, someone may die.

But everyone makes mistakes. Whether we like it or not.

717854 2008-11-10 23:44:00 Just hope the new government tells the judges what is acceptable minimum sentences.
If the judges had got it right about 20% of the time there wouldnt even be a Sensible Sentencing Trust.
We can complain but its the pollies who have to sort the beaks out and fire some.

The sensible sentencing trust is a right wing extreme.

If the judges had everyone shot then they wouldn't exist.

Instead there would be an equivalent left wing organisation.

Like I've said before, the lowest recidivism rates come when people are shot as a minimum sentence. It's a one strike policy, with the only failed case being JC himself.

Funny enough, if I do my job wrong people can die.

Even more funny enough, The pay is miserable, and I'm sure the stress would kill your average judge, soft bastards the lot of them.

The way I see it, all kinds of jobs can result in the death or deaths of innocent people. But when you're a judge you have more chances of putting to death a criminal than an innocent person.

As you say, people make mistakes. If I made some kind of mistake where I work, someone may die of food allergy. Who knows?

717858 2008-11-11 00:17:00 SST aint right wing they are just victims of crime, you would feel their way if your mother or sister got raped/murdered.
I still feel like a victim when 15 yrs ago some bugger stole my MK2 Cortina. I have grieved for it ever since and never got over it. So I probaly woudnt get over someone killing /raping my wife or sister.
The judges killing every crook who walks in the door of the court is a bit extreme maybe you are joking hard to tell.

So we're punishing criminals to make their victims feel better? Not to discourage further crime, or possibly to reform them?

I know that if someone killed/raped anyone close to me that there would be nothing they could do to the person that would make me feel better.

So they're dead... doesn't bring my loved one back, does it?

And about the car... you're kidding right?

We're punishing criminals to first discourage crime, and make victims feel better second. Is one not entitled to justice when a loved one is murdered? If some prick murders a family or friend of mine, I know I would enjoy watching the killer suffer.

Call me sadistic, but vengeance is in human nature and I can't deprive myself of it.

Reforming them takes too much, too long, and without any guarantee that they would succeed. Why give them the liberty that they didn't give their victims?
