| 717731 | 2008-11-05 07:37:00 | I see in the Cristchurch court that Judge JANE FARISH was visibly upset that MAIA RONGONUI has been sent to jail for 4 years for attacking a female Australian tourist who had lost her way back to the backpackers where she was staying. RONGONUI got the woman down an alley and tried to have sex with her.When he was rebuffed , he then kicked and punched her and tried to remove her pants and then tried to rape her. She fought him off and got away. RONGONUI,s semen was found over her clothes. She was, and still is very traumatized. Judge FARISH told RONGONUI that if she had her way she would have sent him home at the end of the trial to his family because he was only 17 at the time and easily lead astray.Judge FARISH wants the parole board to let him out as soon as possible. Never mind his previous 18 convictions. Law and order is breaking down because of people like JUDGE JANE FARISH, the very people that are meant to be upholding the law. Surely they can take onboard the commnunity outrage felt on these crimes and put the bastards away for the maximum time and no parole. Parole is a failed experient. Blardy strange a woman beak wasnt more upset for the tourist the the crook. |

When you enter court you dont know what you are going to face on that given day. PMT, Relationship problems, Alcohol after effects, Family problems etc. Its just bloody lottery Thank God in this case it was trial by jury and she could not get her way. | royaloaks (8205) | ||

How many times has it been reported that a judge said"this is the worst offence of this nature to come before me" and then handed down a lenient sentence. |

Is that severe enough for you? Ditto for the idiot who drove the car through the party goers and killed the two innocent girls. |

| 717738 | 2008-11-05 09:07:00 | Her Honour JUDGE FARISH'S judgments in respect of sentence are, like the judgments of ANY DISTRICT COURT JUDGE subject to APPEAL by BOTH THE CROWN AND THE DEFENCE to the HIGH COURT, THE COURT OF APPEAL and THE SUPREME COURT. So there are three tiers of appeal available to BOTH PARTIES in this case. If Her Honour's judgments are so far off the mark then superior courts will put those judgments ASIDE... Sorry, did I shout that? |
