717527 2008-11-04 22:28:00 Members will be interested to hear that I recently had the pleasure of calling on the Godfather at his casa. I'm pleased to say he was in his usual good humour, full of dry wit and incisive observations.

Godfather's health is currently stable and he is busy working. Having said that, I don't think he will mind me saying that he has had some serious health issues to deal with and faces that daily.

After chatting for a while, he invited me to go for a ride. Having been a fan of the Sopranos, this gave me pause for thought. Being invited to go for a ride by a smiling Godfather usually implied arriving at a very final stop.

Throwing caution to the winds I settled down into the plush leather of a striking blue Mercedes sports coupe. The roof politely went and hid itself somewhere behind us and we were off.

Now, GF is known here as a wise and astute technology user so I expected he'd demonstrate the features of this European sports car. And he did. Only it was at average speeds of 160kph, on the edge of town, including a gravel road. At one stage as the car took some air over a small dip he calmly explained the computerised kickdown - and showed how it worked. Most impressive and if I'd had my eyes open, I'm sure I'd have seen him grinning. What fun, it was a ride to rival my Ducati and that is saying something.

Finally, I need to say that GF shows a strength of spirit and optimism in the face of adversity which is a lesson to us all. Life is not fair and none of us know what may come.

717528 2008-11-04 22:35:00 Thanks for that, Winston.

I'm sure that there are many others here who've been wondering how he's doing - as I have.

And obviously, best wishes are winging his way...

Thanks for sharing, Winston . What a guy!!

Brought a smile and food for thought, as per your usual touch .

Just as a side, I wish I'd known you had a Ducati, one of my previous students has one of those and I used to trawl the net to find articles that I could incorporate with his lessons .

717530 2008-11-04 22:39:00 Glad to hear that godfather is still around and able to terrorise those with more sane inclinations. I always thought he would be capable of showing boyracers a thing or two. :D FoxyMX (5)
717531 2008-11-04 22:41:00 Great stuff, And I hope you repaid the ride and took him for a hell burn on the Ducati. Metla (12)
717532 2008-11-04 23:51:00 I find it hard to believe people are condoning this behaviour. I'm fairly sure if a teenager posted that they'd been driving at speeds in excess of 160km/h, a lot of you would express your disgust, and people would suggest things such as castration. But no, it's fine because he's an old guy who posts on this forum. roddy_boy (4115)

That's right.

if its any consolation I try and do 100mph at least once a day.

Considering the nature of his health issue I'd say he can drive how he likes considering he did stick to an empty country road while doing so - not putting anyone else in danger except for Winston, who seems quite happy to have risked his life in such a way.
