| 832636 | 2009-11-22 22:50:00 | I am still getting regularly disconnected from Orcon. After my last complaint I had two days with no disconnection, and then it started again. On Saturday 4 times, yesterday twice. I have tried three routers, about six splitters. I have the latest drivers and firmware. Orcon can't find anything wrong at their end and suggested I try Belkin for help as I may have three faulty routers!!!! Belkin found later firmware than I had, but it didn't help. As the disconnections always happen between seven and nine pm I suggested their system may be overloaded. They didn't like that! Now they want $200 to come and tell me I have a fault in my system!:annoyed: Are there any good ISP's out there who don't have problems and who's system doesn't get overloaded? What's slingshot like?:annoyed: :annoyed: |

| 832637 | 2009-11-22 22:59:00 | I should move from Rotorua, Jack. It's all that sulphur dioxide, it wrecks havoc with electronics and connections. I bought an ex PO valve Marconi voltmeter ex Rotorua, from Turners as a collectors item, a few years ago from Turners auctions, .....OMG you should have seen it inside, blackened with sulphides....It amazes me that phones work at all with all that rotten eggs smell. |

| 832638 | 2009-11-22 23:06:00 | I have been using Orcon for a few years now. Have had a few disconnections per month but nowhere near as many as what you say you've had. I used to disconnect heaps, but that was because of the router I was using (Belkin). Since changing (Linksys) the problem no longer exists You say you have tried 3 different routers, Are they different brands? Or all Belkin? Their system may be overloaded over your way. I don't know. But do check out all hardware (including filters) and discount it before they come around. |

| 832639 | 2009-11-23 00:17:00 | We are with Orcon at work here in New Plymouth and get around 5 - 10 reconnections per month, with maybe one requiring a modem reboot or around 10 minutes downtime. This has only started happening since they upgraded their servers in March sometime and before that we were lucky to have one reconnection per month. I rang and they have activated (the name escapes me at present) error checking and it hasnt helped the amount of reconnections but we have had less downtime. They said it is "normal" to have some every month.... eeerrr no its not! Good luck |

They can be excellent for one month and can just become a crap ISP the next month. So, just bear with it, no choice. |

| 832642 | 2009-11-23 01:59:00 | I hardly ever get dropped from the Xtra network, last time was a fault across the entire system and it was fixed fairly quickly. About 4-6 months ago now if memory serves. | DeSade (984) | ||
| 832643 | 2009-11-23 03:22:00 | My son is with Orcon and has no disconnections. I had a few days os getting disconnections not long ago. I am with Vodafone. I swapped routers, filters and reterminated jackpoints. Once I unplugged the cordless phone the problem stopped. The phone works just fine, gave it to a friend who has no internet at all, bought a new cordless and no more problems. Have you troubleshooted everything? Including your wiring and phones, faxes etc? |

About 4-6 months ago now if memory serves. I reckon you oughta complain about that, it is unacceptable poor service!! I've been on Xtra for over 10 years and I've had just one ISP outage. Apart from that I've had three routers die which caused a few grey hairs. Xtra was always ready and waiting when I started up again though. Can't get grey hairs any more though now, got no hair! :D Cheers Billy 8-{) |
