832454 2009-11-22 08:11:00 Hey have you guys seen the new ping test?

www.pingtest.net (http://www.pingtest.net)

This is from the same guys that did the www.speedtest.net, so they are pretty good.

A lot of people forget the interaction between latency and throughput and for some of the UK and US sites, this can be the main bottleneck, so nice to see this taken into account..

832455 2009-11-22 08:12:00 I will do it, guys :D

832458 2009-11-22 09:58:00 I just did a few tests again:
www.pingtest.net
www.pingtest.net

I get almost just as good a connection to Aus as you do across town :D +1 for my BigTime line!

However, that said, I'm sure if you turned off Interleaving you'd get the same as I do. I was getting quite latency with it ON, prior to Telecom begging me to turn it off to try and fix my video streaming issue :p

Definitely agree, and the catch phrase:

Use Pingtest.net to determine the quality of your broadband Internet connection. Streaming media, voice, video communications, and online gaming require more than just raw speed
^^ Too right! Something many people seem to be unaware of...

832459 2009-11-22 10:00:00 Latest bragging rights seem to be: Not the throughput of your line, but the quality (Latency, jitter & packet loss)!

BTW adslgeek, nice to see you sticking around PF1 a little more :)

Thanks mate - only too happy to do so! BTW Is it acceptable that I am chatting away re: DSL / Broadband in this forum? It seems quite focussed in on PC support stuff?

832461 2009-11-25 19:53:00 Of course :) Chat is more OT stuff, non-techie related. We still have quite a bit of "chatting" going on in the main PF1 forum, around anything PC-related.
Back a few years now we had a ton of thread being labelled "O/T" or "Off Topic:" and so rather than fight it we figured it was better to create a forum specifically for it.

On another note, I found another similar tool a while back, but it was international (Nothing local) and the best MOS you could get was around 3.8 due to it being overseas... I should try and find it again, tools like pingtest fascinate me!
