1446996 2018-03-04 08:34:00 Hiya,

I am thinking of buying this particular outdoor umbrella: www.trademe.co.nz

Seems a bit tad cheap to me, but am looking for some opinion from PF1-ers.

Cheers :)

1446997 2018-03-04 18:01:00 I got something similar from mitre10. $600. Been up for 4 years. Been through a couple of storms no problem. Just put it down and put cover on it. I would be cautious with it being so cheap plod (107)

Madam bought one (or something very similar) beginning of summer.
It's cheap because it's cheap. Everything you touch is plastic and cranking the handle is an exercise in praying the internals won't break.
It could last a week, or 5 years.

On the upside, it's asthetically pleasing and once up does a very good job of what its meant to do. Looks expensive without close examination. For the price, and having used one, I'd say it wouldn't be the worst investment you could make.
But factor in costs of square slabs to hold the base to the ground, unless you have a Plan B.

How do they justify that?

its a 2M , 13kg box
even courier within Ak is expensive
RD , its aint gonna fit on the posties bike :) . So a 1 off trip for a courier isnt going to be cheap.

Inter Island courier costs are getting pretty damn pricey regardless

Wind trashes them, so if in a very windy area perhaps not.

Other than that, go for it.

1447002 2018-03-12 07:16:00 We finally got an expensive one a while ago, it is lasting well.
Our experience with the cheaper ones was they cannot stand much wind, they do not stand up to UV particularly well, winter is not going ensure a long life and finally, cheap or expensive if you store your umbrella make sure it is bagged before you settle it in for the winter. There seems there's a bug that finds sun umbrella fabric quite a tasty treat!
