1445692 2018-01-30 00:11:00 Getting the above error on one of the win 10 systems here.
Brother HL-2040 usb connection.
Trouble shooter shows an error but doesn't elaborate.
Tried uninstalling etc, no diff.

Connected to gaming system, also win 10 no problem.

Found quite a bit on google re this issue.
Just working through some of them now.

Anyone had this & found a cure for it?

1445693 2018-01-30 00:20:00 I assume it prints OK on the gaming PC

Any recent updates , Winupdate , build update , win printer driver update, USB drv update
- roll back Win to previous build (last resort only ) or system restore & restore back to when it was working

test USB port with a USB memory stick or USB hard drive .

to remove driver

1445694 2018-01-30 02:27:00 Yes it prints from the gaming system.
I also tried it on SWMBO's laptop & it's all good there too.
So I'm reasonably confident the problem is not with the printer.

Recent updates.
Yes whenever MS wants to, but the other systems all get the same updates.
However the 3 systems are different. In that the problem system is win10 pro x64, the gamer is win10 H x64 & the laptop is win10 H x32.

Have tied it in several USB ports & even tried another cable.

There is no downloadable brother driver.
If you look for one it tells you to use the MS one which is part of win 10.

I have noticed though when you connect it to the problem system it appears in devices & printers as a pc type icon & stays that way.
You have to manually add it to get it to show as the default printer.

With both the other systems, that icon appears, then changes to a printer icon.

1445695 2018-01-30 03:46:00 what build version are the 3 PC's , all the same build version
ie what ver no. 1607, 1703 etc etc

Its the pits when manufacturers wont supply a driver for manual install.
Ive seen a few other Win10 PC's that a few HP printers just wouldnt work properly on, only option was to replace an otherwise working printer .

Really? It's got absolutely brilliant support for Linux.

1445698 2018-01-30 08:54:00 Really? It's got absolutely brilliant support for Linux. Why doesn't quite a few network printers or scanners features work on Linux -- Reason = No Drivers ;)

Just finished doing a job windows 10 and the printer didn't work after a minor update ( so they said) , the problem was actually the router, nothing at all to do with the OS.

From your own experience you will know often people don't give all details as to whats been done or changed. :)

HP is fully supported.
Canon, reasonable, my brother has set up his printer/scanner on Linux now, zero experience.

The printer was simple, the scanner needed to be downloaded from Canon, a bit of fiddle.

Epson I grant you is less supported, I made mine work, but double sided printing was a PITA.

A couple of places I service, one or two of the people have Windows and a couple of personal Linux on laptops, The Linux drivers are a nightmare. I'm meaning BIG printers similar and like the DocuCentre-V 3065 (Fuji Xerox) and larger. They have on their site Drivers for MAC's and Windows but no Linux Drivers.

A lot of problems with errors on most printers are driver related, sometimes its other reasons, like the other day a persons the printer wouldn't print, checked it all out, reinstalled the Drivers Hmmmmmmmm Then discovered they had a paper Jam, and the page had ripped, ended up partly disassembling the printer -- and there's a tiny piece of paper stuck- Worked after removing, going back to people often don't tell you everything. :)

In Bold -- doesn't the printer preferences give Duplex Options ?

1445701 2018-01-30 21:04:00 I have now connected this printer to the USB on my Vodafone Ultra Hub.
I can access & use it from the gaming system but not the other two systems.
