1445638 2018-01-28 19:52:00 Reverse Racism .

We were having a lovely day at a beach in Kawhia Harbour, watching the people launching their boats or hauling them out .

We had parked our motorhome on a small stretch of grass between the road and the sea wall . We decided that it was that nice that we would have our tea there so I got out the barbeque and started to set it up when we were approached by a maori woman wearing a maori warden's hat . She told us that we were on maori land and that we would have to leave .

She said that the land belonged to the people in the house across the road . I said to her that we were on public land and she said that most people believe that it is public land, but it is not . I thought that the land might be what is referred to as "The Queen's Chain" which is public land 22 metres (approx) from the sea wall, but as that does not necessarily apply to all coastal land (just the majority) I could not argue that point, so we left and had our tea elsewhere . :annoyed:

1445642 2018-01-28 21:31:00 May I point out that private property, is private property, it doesn't matter that it is owned by someone with brown skin.
Try the reverse test before you get your knickers in a knot next time.

1445645 2018-01-28 23:21:00 I've heard almost this exact story before at Kawhia. Much of Kawhia is Maori land and it has been a source of minor conflict from time to time. Some of it seems very petty, but without context and background it's hard to judge.
I used to live there and found the locals very friendly and inclusive for the most part, there are always exceptions. Kawhia is also the resting place of the Tainui canoe so for some it has cultural significance.

Also "Reverse Racism" could only refer to something like treating other races better than your own. Racism is racism regardless of who does it, to suggest it's different when practiced by a particular racial group is in itself racist. Sure some people act like only majorities can be called racist and I think that's where the term reverse racism comes from but it's ridiculous.

Yes it looks like a berm but ownership of them is wishy washy. Some councils say you must mow it so then you must have partial ownership of it. Maybe the blacks really do have partial ownership of it.

1445647 2018-01-28 23:37:00 The maori land court has mapped areas of maori land here (goo.gl) (mlol - Maori lands online). I think maori have gifted lands for all (the crown) - including ski fields and mountains.

I once found a road near a popular fishing Opotiki beach blocked, which belonged to local Maori. I heard they did so because people were getting greedy spin fishing to catch hundreds of king size Kahawai,
