1445193 2018-01-21 14:58:00 I want to take 2 SSD Drive into 1 because my C drive is getting full and I have four 120 GB SSD Drives so instead of buying a 240 GB SSD Drive would it be OK to just combined 2 of my 120 GB SSD drives so not to spend money on another on? lostsoul62 (16011)
1445194 2018-01-21 17:48:00 I am not sure how Windows handles this.

In Linux you can create Logical Volumes, groups of drives that can extend the space, or more correctly add groups of drives together to make it appear as just one drive.

1445195 2018-01-21 18:50:00 For the C:drive you need to set up a Raid array first then install windows onto it, and you may need to load Raid drivers during install. I can't help you with the process because I never use Raid for my boot drive. Also Trim may not work correctly on a Raid array.
For drives you don't want to boot from windows can combine them into a single volume if you convert them to dynamic disks with disk management or you could use the built in storage spaces utility.

120 is usually plenty for the OS if you store your files elsewhere unless you are installing games on it, I have that sized C drive on several computers with no issue.

generally . . .
Do NOT do this . RAID 0 is not a good idea , you only need one drive to fail & you loose all data
Use Win disk manager to extend the partition . I wouldnt recommend that either

Just use the 2nd drive as a D: . Move user data to it : change default drive for docs, pics etc
The best way is just to buy a bigger drive :-)

1445197 2018-01-21 20:00:00 Window's Disk Management using Dynamic Disk also work right? Also the same risks ... Saves you reinstalling Windows. It might be OK if you have backups. I try to also have a extra drive internal which does a sync each day together with the external backups. Or simply just use them as 2 separate disks using the different folders.

Edit - are you wanting the RAID 0 speed increase?

1445198 2018-01-21 21:29:00 I mentioned Dynamics disks already, but you can't boot from a dynamic disk. Only non system disks can be dynamic. Because of this windows disk manager will not allow you to extend the boot disk onto another drive. I also don't like RAID as a boot drive but mentioned it as the only way I'm aware of to combine drives for a system boot disk. Still the risk to data is not so important because we all back up regularly right?

Long ago I decided the best policy for the main boot drive is to keep it simple, stick with a single drive and a single partition with enough performance and space for your needs and you will have the least potential for problems it's possible to have. RAID 1 might be better in theory but it adds complexity to the setup process and as discussed many times before RAID is not a backup.
