1445108 2018-01-19 07:03:00 Have changed email to outlook.co.nz from Vodafone ClearNet, yes I know it should have been something decent, GMail perhaps.

Now I have to logon onto laptop with password.

Tried to find the solution on PressF1 without success.

Help on bypassing this procedure appreciated.

1445109 2018-01-19 09:04:00 Go into the settings / Accounts / Sign in options (or from the search type Sign in) Click on use local account -- it will open a window, type in the current password, when prompted if you still want a password enter it, if not then leave the boxes blank, once its done it will need to reboot, when it starts if you opted for a password enter it, if not then click sign in - you'll now be on the local account. If no password, next time you restart it will go directly to the desktop.

What may have happened and its VERY common, when signing into something there's an option to only sign into that app - a high percentage of people don't see the option.

1445111 2018-01-19 20:24:00 OK wai thanks, that's sorted.

Now with "the beast" Microsoft live mail and whatever else it is known by: I have them all, silly, silly me and now I want to use Internet Explorer, I have to log in using "create account" WTF.

The create account window states "it has sent a code to my telephone no.", no code no on the answering machine, needless to say I wont be using any MS ISPs'.

MS used to have a "help" flag that popped out of the RH side of screen, where is it when you now need it, rofl.

PCTech could be spot on with her comment earlier on in 2017.

1445112 2018-01-19 20:34:00 wai solved the IE one by going back to original settings, whoo, hoo.

Bestest thing about W10, it boots and shuts down with lightning speed.

1445113 2018-01-19 20:42:00 EDITED: See you got it sorted.

Its not hard, as you discovered when changing from a email sign in to local, just a case of knowing how to do things. :)

I personally wouldn't use Internet Explorer, its to old and not fully supported. Use either Edge, Chrome or Firefox.

If you wanted a stand alone program, the inbuilt is not advised, I personally don't like it much, and have found most people are the same, better to use something like Thunderbird or some other flavour of email client.

To sign into the web mail which is what you are doing if using a browser, all you do is go to www.outlook.com Click Sign in, enter your email address and password, you may get prompted for a security code, , this is only as its states security ( NO different to when using gmail) Once accepted, it won bother you again.

At some point you will have setup security answers. Its better to use a txt message than a phone call, they both work, the txt is better though, and I don't think the phone mesasage will leave an answer on a answer machine. Seen it countless times people set up security questions, then either change a phone number or forget what they put. That's NOTHING to do with MS if a person makes changes, they can only go by what information they are given.

Had the EXACT same thing happen on a Gmail account I have, I set it up years ago, the old Phone number and recovery email LONG GONE, took days trying to remember what the answers to the security questions were.

Bestest thing about W10, it boots and shuts down with lightning speed. Yep, new PC I built, w10 i5 with 8 GB Memory, from fully off to fully up and going 15 seconds.

1445114 2018-01-19 21:19:00 Using web mail as you say and it defaults to the one most used, which is now Outlook.co.nz.

Family History sites set up years ago had groups on different isps', so Yahoo, GMail, Hotmail and ClearNet were used.

MS security codes were previously sent to Yahoo, now with their setup they ask for everything but your drinking habits, so that's where phone no came about.

GMail emails are sent across to Outlook and I will try the same for the others.

Lot of talk on this site about Thunderbird, but I think I have enough to contend with now.

HP laptop with 8gig would be under 15secs here, lol.

Thanks again wai.

1445115 2018-01-19 22:35:00 Only real problems I have had with Thunderbird and setting up ( gmail, Outlook xtra) is when you have to enter in the user details. Email address is usually OK, but the password :waughh: The amount of people who say along the lines of " I dont have an email password its always just worked" They forget that sometime years ago who ever set up the mail will have put in a password. So then have to load software to get the password from the current email account.

Once the email address and password are entered correctly TB usually does a good job of auto detecting the settings. :)

2ND thing I do, and this throws some people :D Ask do they want to keep the default look or add in a different Skin/Theme install and show a couple -- Which one to choose - decisions decisions. LOL
