1446762 2018-02-27 20:16:00 So has Bulgaria its gone down by half!
But seriously.
China may be the world largest solar panels producer, But I imagine that most of its power still comes from coal fired stations.
Give technology and Tesla etc a few more years and they may have big enough batteries to store power (like his new one in SA)
But are those batteries themselves dangerous with all the chemicals etc.
If NZ said hydro was for power cars at night and the day time power must come from wind and solar then it might work in the long term.
But why are electric cars so dear?
And will people really like them, they scare me as they are so quiet and you could run out of power on the motorway.

1446763 2018-02-27 20:47:00 China claim to have a long term plan, supposedly they will use all the coal power they need for now to set themselves up but have a planned date to move to sustainable sources. If they stick to it they could end up leading the world for clean energy.
Electric cars are expensive because they don't sell enough of them, the more they make the cheaper they'll get. Apparently they should eventually cost less than half what an ICE car does to produce if production ramps up enough.

As for running out on the motorway, would you drive around with the fuel empty light on in rush hour? because you'd have to be doing the equivalent with the battery indicator. For most people who's daily commute is less than 100km you simply charge them up overnight and have your full range available every morning. The only thing that has stopped me switching to electric is my habit of taking a few long trips over my holidays every year, the rest of the time they would be perfect.

1446765 2018-02-27 21:43:00 Or we could vote Green and throw away our cars and bike every where.
Our stupid council here in Tga is spending millions on new cycle lanes.

Too many dont have a garage for their car.
EV wont work for those who park on the road or on the driveway
Imagine trying to charge your car thats parked out on the road or on the driveway, dragging out power cables in the pouring rain.

Also ,globally, we'll need to burn coal (or nuclear) to power/charge Electric cars.
Even in NZ , if we all went EV , we wouldnt have the capacity to charge them all: so fire up huntley . :-)
Electric cars have been around 100 years . They just arnt an easy option .

If we made cars small light & efficient , that would make a big difference . A micro is all thats needed to get to work, stuck in traffic so dont need to go fast
We could dedicate motorway lanes to micro cars .

Good on them. I am a cyclist (one less car on the road) and find the cycleways and lanes are great. We cyclists are treated with contempt by car drivers but the marked roads are a step towards safer riding.

Still confused between climate change and weather, and you spruik yourself as some sort of alternative expert?
What a joke.:rolleyes::lol:

1446770 2018-02-28 00:30:00 As karamea dave mentioned seeding of the oceans. I have seen water-rain been produced in test chamber at Physics lab at Auckland Uni. So seeding of the atmosphere perhaps be done (or re-done). I think rain was artificially produced in the Southern states. So perhaps "warm" or cool up the atmosphere artificially somehow to selectively alter temperature land mass. But could cause undesirable side effects... kahawai chaser (3545)

It's a bad example, the cold weather is being caused by unusually warm conditions over the north pole forcing cold air down. They recently recorded 0 degrees C at the north pole in winter!

I'm afraid that particular weather pattern is more in line with the predictions you don't believe in.
