1445879 2018-02-04 20:51:00 I'm currently editing about 50 hours of home movies shot in 1994. Audiences tend to dislike their voices recorded at the time so I replace the entire soundtrack with music. (With the original soundtrack as a separate file in case they really want to know what they were saying)

But what music? Well, cool jazz, easy listening, popular music at the time. Remember Jewel? Blondie?

A lot of old pop music sounds terrible today but the occasional modern cover is OK. I particularly like Gregory Porter's version of Let It Be

My personal preference would be classical music so I sneak in light classical pieces such as Skaters Waltz, Reilly Ace of Spies and so on

So that's the sort of music I'm surrounded by today. Otherwise I listen to RNZ Concert or London's Classic FM

1445880 2018-02-04 22:51:00 Eclectic choice here...

At the moment I am having a splurge on old guitarists - Chris Smither (e.g. Killing the blues), John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Jerry Douglas. What did we do pre YouTube? I got on to Chris Smither after listening to Raising Sands (Alison Krauss and Robert Plant), and started exploring who else had written/performed Killing the Blues.

I listen to a lot of Scottish and Irish folk music (Eddie Reeder, The Gloaming, various uillean pipe players).

Love the Cranberries - sent their recently released CDs to Scott Base on Winfly when my son spent the 1994/95 year down there.

And Mozart of course when I am not on earphones or in my study and SWMBO is within earshot.

I used to listen to a lot of NZ music, and have heaps on CD - The Clean, The Chills, David Kilgour, Hirini Melbourne, Don McGlashan, Te Vaka (if you include them in NZ music) etc etc

For me it's what did we do pre-Spotify?

Streaming was a foreign concept to me before I got Spotify via Spark as part of a contract, and I've listened to an amazing range of music since. Absolutely love the app.

1445882 2018-02-05 23:32:00 Today Mumford and sons as well as Seasick Steve.

Yesterday Slade, Motorhead, Saxon, Iron Maiden good old fashioned British Metal and Glam rock, not much of a fan of American metal

Love Sea Sick Steve, currently listening to 'High Hopes' Bruce Springsteen.

I only recently listened via bandcamp & soundcloud.
My main Stereo hardly ever gets even turned on anymore , theres just too much online

Could this be the real reason for the decline in CD sales,
With all the online music , people will simply no longer accept CD's that are 3 good songs & the other 75% duds

For some unkown reason , Ive been to see more overseas bands in the last 6 months than in the previous 7 years .
Saw the Stranglers (with the Ruts) on Friday .

Yeah pretty diverse music mainly from Euro counties, via Ice Cast streaming on numerous radio stations using spider player, Winamp etc. But now having a break from music, heard 1000's over the years, and mate a DJ player has over 30, 000 tracks. Been using Google music - so it can send me music that appeals, since don'rt want to spend hours searching...and listening...

also the audiences are getting really old now, for the bands Ive been going to recently.
So many grey haired or no haired in the audience, many must be 60+

So refreshing that Im no longer the oldest at these events :)
