1445160 2018-01-20 10:22:00 Have a look in the Control Panel to see if the Realtek software is there. Sometimes if that's available you'll find the setting causing the problem. ( this is different to the other Audio settings) wainuitech (129)

Thanks for your post. Sorry for not answering earlier but I was involved in a car acccident. Body and mind are a bit bruised but otherwise I'm ok.
Checked Control Panel and there's no Realtek entry, only in "Sound".
Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

1445162 2018-01-23 04:59:00 To save a mountain of troubleshooting and getting nowhere, If it were me I'd do the following.

Boot the laptop from a Linux Live CD/DVD, this will bypass all the software completely. Once its up and running then try something with sound ( say off of youtube) Do the onboard speakers work ? If they do its software related, if they don't --Then its hardware.

Seen MANY cases where someone has been fault finding only to discover after a LOT of frustration and wasted time they were fault finding the wrong areas.

1445163 2018-01-28 01:33:00 Any suggestions where to download the most hassle-free Linux Live CD/DVD? Thanks. Cyberhuskey (13067)
1445164 2018-01-28 02:35:00 When you download -- create a bootable DVD or USB drive from the ISO and boot from that.

Heres Linux mint linuxmint.com

Hassle-Free ??? No such operating system. They all have their own problems one way or another. ;)

1445165 2018-01-28 09:35:00 Did it and to my surprise there was also no sound through the Linux Mint OS. Would you have any recommendations on how I should proceed and fix the hardware problem? Thanks again. Cyberhuskey (13067)
1445166 2018-01-28 19:59:00 I’m thinking along the lines of Wainui in his post #7.

Does a stock standard set of headphones or speakers work from the 3.5mm Jack?

I’d insert and remove a stock standard plug in that jack several times to see what happens.

Are there any clicks or crackles from the headset or speakers?

Did Mint show the volume control at bottom right?
Try rebooting in Mint and open the terminal then type in:

lspci
then press enter
Does it list an audio device?

Also: have you checked in BIOS (UEFI) setup to see if the device is disabled there?
