1446742 2018-02-26 17:16:00 My question to climate change believers, is this.
What if temperatures really started rising, and the sea levels really started rising, so that we could all see it and agree.

What would you suggest that we do about it now? - urgently!

1446743 2018-02-26 19:10:00 I doubt you could do anything.

Anything meaningful that is. Humans are not good at that as it is, there'd be meetings, arguments, a lot of BS, the usual....

The planet has warmed and cooled throughout it's history without any help from humans, we have other things to worry about, it isn't just warming. It's loss of forests and jungles, loss of woldlife, bees, plastic in the food chain, polluted water, a lack of clean water, all sorts of things.

If we cut the population by 5/6's it might help a bit...but I think it's a runaway train now....

1446744 2018-02-26 19:46:00 Stop the release of CFCs, HFCs, PFCs, Sulphur Hexafluoride, Methane and Carbon Dioxide.
Plant trees, lots of them. Pray, if you are a believer in imaginary sky friends.
Seed certain areas of ocean with Iron to stimulate phytoplankton growth.
Build massive scrubbers to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
Stop air travel, paint all artificial surfaces with reflective paint.
Begin construction of a Dyson Sphere, using renewable fuel to launch the components.
Release reflective aerosols into the stratosphere.
Good luck with getting any of this happening.
Really though, it's too late already to stop catastrophic sea level rise.
Climate change driven, extreme weather events are already here, you are merely ignoring them.

1446745 2018-02-26 20:03:00 Stand BM up on a huge pedestal, with his head firmly in the sand on climate change the gasses coming out the other end will blow climate change away.

If that doesn't work the KDaves ideas would be the next best

1446746 2018-02-26 20:34:00 Massive investment in public transport - rail and busses.

A second major rail line the length of the country to allow simultaneous northbound and southbound transport, and some redundancy in the event of natural disasters (as we've seen plenty of justification in recent weeks and years).

Vast increase in the availability of Park and Ride transfer points, with decent security systems in place so people can believe their cars will still be there when they return.
Extensive fuel taxes to help drive the change to use the mass transport (or some road tolling / user charges scheme to make private carbon fuelled vehicle use progressively less economic).
However, we still need to keep our profitable export industries viable, so some concessions towards the rural industries - farming, agriculture.

It's not the solution, but it's a good start.

1446747 2018-02-26 21:38:00 What can we do about it? I agree with piroska - probably nothing. We should at least try though. Reduce our population, reduce our emissions and pollution, look for sustainable lifestyles.

I think we are screwed by our own nature as a species. We will grow in numbers until we reach the limits of our planet, and every time we near that limit out ingenuity will help us extend it a little bit farther. Eventually we will either find an equilibrium or suffer major disasters (famine, disease, war, ocean rises, pollution, etc) Along the way though we destroy the environment around us, bending it to our will and making more and more of the planets surface dedicated to supporting us. As to global warming, if it causes major disasters we will adapt and continue and learn nothing.

This is my pessimistic worst case scenario, maybe mankind will surprise me and do better. I can envision a future where everything is either a farm or a city, with no natural wild areas left. I hope that's not what will happen.

1446748 2018-02-26 21:53:00 Its simple.
plant lots of trees
stop burning coal.
No more cattle (methane)
all the forests & tress cut down (incl nz) , revert farms back to forests
anything else is just fiddling around the edges . Adding a train here and there will make bugger all difference

Well, thats our economy stuffed . So that idea wont last long , especially when we cant feed ourselves
Countries that have to import food (UK) , well they just have to starve death.

Stop buying goods from countries that use coal fired electricity generation : ie no more goods from china etc
We wont be able to afford imports anyway as our farm based economy no longer exists (no more cattle/sheep farms)
No more tourism. No more trips overseas on planes .
Middle class NZ with their earth saving Prius's simply wont put up with a ban on polluting air travel .

then wait 25years
Fixes are easy. Implementing them is hard & just wont happen.
And dont point the finger at developing countries, unless we are willing to reverse all the clear-felling, methane burping & carbon burning NZ has done

All the “Greenies” should have a “Working Bee” plugging up these things. :D

Plugging you up may be more effective. :D
