1486195 2022-05-12 16:19:00 Have you considered the built-in Window backup?

This allows you to create a full image of your system.

Also have a look at EaseUS ToDo Backup Free (www.easeus.com) - which will give you what you're looking for.

1486196 2022-05-12 21:45:00 Personally and recommend Macrium Reflect Free www.macrium.com The free home is down the page a little on the left.

It does full images as well as Differential not incremental. I use it myself and is it set to do a full backup image on Saturdays with Differential nightly.

The following link describes the differences, advantages / Disadvantages between Differentials & Incremental incremental-vs-differential-backup-what-are-the-differences-and-how-do-they-compare (blog.macrium.com)

You have to watch out with some other Free Backups, as they don't allow you to make a bootable media either CD or USB, which is hopeless really because if your HDD fails you cant put back the whole backup without 1st having to install windows ( pointless). You want to be able to boot from media and put everything back on an empty drive - Macrium Free allows this.

With Macrium, you can also mount the images and get any data off ( say a single file you accidently delete) As well as tick the box to install viBoot and you can mount the image as a Virtual Machine.

.

The built in Win backup works really well. (not the newer file history backup thing)
Its in Control panel. Make sure you pick the options for a disk image & manually chose data to backup.
It does both a Full image & a separate data backup

But, one bug.
If the USB Backup HD isnt big enough , it wont allways overwrite/remove old backups and will fail rather than deleting old backups like its supposed to, if a lack of free space on the backup drive
Not really an issue 2Tb USB Hard Drives :-)

1486198 2022-05-12 22:21:00 One HUGE problem that the inbuilt Windows backup "had", they may have changed it now (I don't know as I don't trust it) is for example if you have a 1TB Drive in the computer and wish to put back to a SSD of lets say 512GB it wont go back stating not enough room when there may be plenty. The Windows backup looks for the same size or larger drive. wainuitech (129)
1486199 2022-05-13 07:40:00 I just use syncback free for data and dont bother doing images anymore. As any software I use is available as downloads and windows/linux installs are so easy now gary67 (56)
