1485399 2022-04-05 03:59:00 I thought I was finished with scanning photos, but SWIMBO dug up some more from somewhere.
I had previously used a Epson CX5900 to do the others.
The inks had dried up years ago but it would still scan nicely.
I spent most of the morning trying to get it to talk to Windows 11 but have given up & parked it by the wheely bin.
I have a couple of hundred color prints to do & also some slides if possible.
Looking online at what's available to do the job.
Can anyone advise on the Kogan 5-in-1 Scanner.

1485400 2022-04-05 04:45:00 How did you try to install the CX5900 on Windows 11 ??? Did you try the actual Drivers, available from the Epson Site ?

1485401 2022-04-05 06:52:00 That's where I initially got the drivers from.
It recognized the printer & the ink problem.
Didn't include the scan interface.
Tried the win10 scanner driver from here www.drivers-epson.com
That gave me the scan interface but showed a no connection error.
I had similar issues getting it to work on win10 a couple of years back, must have just fluked it then.
My initial scans were made on win7 without any issues.
I still have my original win7 disk, so installed that on a spare hard drive this morning.
Banged that in the system, but the result was the same.
So at that point I gave up.

1485402 2022-04-05 07:12:00 Try different Scanning software. Either the Windows Scan From the Store, OR someone else posted some other software that works well also. Its called https://www.naps2.com/ Scans to pictures as well.

Can anyone advise on the Kogan 5-in-1 Scanner. I looked at some of the reviews about it, Lots of mixed comments ranging from Great to absolute waste of money.

1485403 2022-04-05 07:36:00 Had the same problem end of last week

Epson XP200 scanner when used a Month or so ago worked but refused to communicate at all when used last week

Uninstalled then reinstalled nothing, finally on a forum pointed to the latest scanner driver for Windows 11

1.30 hours later working, must have been a Windows update that caused it

1485405 2022-04-05 10:39:00 Try this -- often the scanner driver is seperate to the Actual Printer Different Site for epson has the actual Scanner driver epson.com.jm wainuitech (129)
1485406 2022-04-05 12:00:00 I hadn't spotted that win11 scanner driver, so have just downloaded & tried it.
It still doesn't work but the error shown is different to the win10 driver.
If I go into "Printers & Scanners" Epson Stylus 5900 is shown as "idle"
If I go into scanner properties, double click on the Epson Icon
It shows as "Device Ready" & will pass the diagnostic scanner test.
The Win11 scanner will now find it, but it comes up with "Problem scanning, something went wrong. Please try again"
I have tried two, known to be good USB cables & several onboard USB ports.
I'm wondering if the dried up ink situation is causing a shutdown in the printer.
All the lights come on as normal. Display shows "X E-90 Please contact Epson"

1485407 2022-04-05 21:40:00 I'm wondering if the dried up ink situation is causing a shutdown in the printer.
Theres a chance that can cause it.

Most inkjets will shutdown as a safety when ink(s) are low. There was a post a short while back where someone (cant remember who now) found that Naps2 Scanner program, that allowed to scan from the printer and save to the PC. BUT not all printers will allow it.

Was working on a Office HP earlier this week, the Cyan was empty esp after having to declog the heads , and the whole thing shutdown, it did allow ONCE to print a test page when I changed the print to Greyscale, after that No Go till the Cyan was replaced.

Edited: The error E-90 -- looked it up
Error E-90 means that something is stopping the ink carriage from moving its full extent.
Open the scanner and check that the ink carriage lid is firmly locked down, check along the path of the carriage for any foreign/loose objects. Use an alcohol wipe or similar & gently wipe the plastic registration strip that goes through the top rear of the ink carriage. Be careful not to dislodge or damage it. If the carriage moves when you switch it on, pull out the power cable when it is across to the left and check for loose gears or foreign objects in the gears on R/H side

Some other forum posted this to try and fix: www.justanswer.com Scroll down to post with procedure.

1485408 2022-04-05 21:42:00 That's where I initially got the drivers from .
It recognized the printer & the ink problem .
Didn't include the scan interface .
.

Ive seen that a few times , on some oldish printers (HP & Brother)
They have print drivers , but not scan drivers , for Win10,11 . They even state scanning not compatible with win10,11 etc ( because they cant be bothered writing/fixing the driver for it)
So Win wont recognize it as a scanner
