1485038 2022-03-18 21:50:00 I am running Win 11 Pro. When I attach a USB device (stick or Ext HDD) I would like to see the files appear on the monitor. This doesn't happen and I have to click on the File Explorer to access the drive. How do I get the USB device to appear as soon as I plug it in? Bryan (147)
1485039 2022-03-19 01:36:00 You need to change the autoplay default setting for removable drive.
I'm not good at explaining things.
Just google "change the autoplay default setting for removable drive"

1485040 2022-03-19 02:35:00 Thank you for that. I have tried but I can still not get the removable HDD to load directly to the monitor. I have to go to the File explorer or "This PC" icon and load from there. I am sure that at one time just attaching the drive would bring up the folders automatically. Nothing I select from Autoplay will do that now. Bryan (147)
1485041 2022-03-19 04:02:00 We have the same problem with one of those photo sticks, comes up in this pc listing with 116gb, double clicking does absolutely nothing either.

Another external hard drive comes up with USB Device not recognized and we will have to get our guru in to sort this out.

1485042 2022-03-19 05:43:00 "SOMETIMES" you need to roll up ya sleves and dig deep to resolve this problem. ( had several do it lately) Have a read on this site www.minitool.com Heres a hint: Most didn't work. (helpful eh :D) OK heres what did Number 5 in that link-- Reg edits -- And seriously dont screw up the paths otherwise can cause all sorts of problems. The default numbers are usually 255. * SEE NOTE:

NOTE: What you may find is the Second Path doesn't exist so you have to add it in by right clicking in the folder and creating the entry, once done and rebooted, plugging in the USB opens directly showing the contents.

Heres a video I made showing how

1485043 2022-03-19 18:37:00 Thankyou WT. I have checked the Registry intending to create the fixes that you suggest. However, in both HKEY_USER and HKEY_MACHINE\software\ Microsoft\CurrentVersion, Current version does not appear in either. I had best leave for now and persevere using file explorer or THIS PC icon to access the USB. WIN 11 was created using the work around as my CPU and MB are too old. But, thanks again for the help. 1485044 2022-03-19 18:47:00 Whoopsy, should have double checked, I had left out Windows after Microsoft!!!!!! Bryan (147)
1485045 2022-03-19 19:08:00 OK! The HKEY_USER was there with default value of 255. There was nothing in the HKEY_MACHINE so I created it as you suggested, rebooted added the USB drive and there it was on the monitor. Thank you so much. Bryan (147)
1485046 2022-03-20 00:01:00 The first app I install in Windows is Free Commander file manager. You can create favourite shortcuts to any folder, or drive. mzee (3324)
1485047 2022-03-20 02:49:00 Thanks for the tip mzee. Eons ago I used Peter Norton's Norton's Commander - wonderful program. It went by the boards and so I dabbled with Total Commander. I haven't had it for sometime so I am pleased to see Free Commander does the helpful things the previous programs that I used did. Bryan (147)
