But that goes against the very raison détre of bureaucracy. My experience of the way public submissions are invited is that the questions are carefully structured to attract favourable (to council) replies. If such response is unfavourable, then it is negated by a statement justifying why the original proposition was in fact correct, irrefutable, and how dare you question the expert opinion anyway. |

I listen to their frequencies most days and have been listening for a few years and have not heard the approach paths "change several times a day," unless you call one or two times "several times a day." The weather does not change that often. As I have said previously, the prevailing wind blows from the west and so for the majority of the time aircraft land and take off east to west, which means that the approach path is over Auckland, in particular, Mt Albert, Royal Oak, Howick and old Papatoetoe. Not only that, I worked for a few years at the (old) Papatoetoe telephone exchange which is right beneath the flight path and when the aircraft were coming in to land they passed at a few hundred feet above the exchange and it was impossible to talk on the phone while they passed overhead. That happened most of the day. Conversely, aircraft taking off west to east was worse as they were at full power and a Jumbo Jet made that much noise that you could not talk over the row. Thankfully that did not happen too often and certainly not "several times a day." |

Ok, some older Maori dictionaries say "Kia Ora" also means “Good Health”. So may I suggest the sign be "Twinked Out" and replaced with “Haere mai”. My Consultancy fee a modest $40k. :) |

My Consultancy fee a modest $40k. :) Surely it does not matter what it says. Overseas travellers will have absolutely no idea what the maori words mean. Perhaps they would have better to have written "Bonjour" or "Guten tag" as I am certain that there are more travellers that would understand French or German, although I do not understand what's wrong with English, after all it's the most widely spoken languague in the world. |

| 1485997 | 2022-05-09 23:21:00 | Yes the "road to zero" seems like a folly to me given that I suspect that in any complex real-world system like motorists driving on the road network there will always be accidents (less than zero possibility) no matter how much care in driving along it participants take. Note, I don't have the mathematical chops to prove this but I suspect that it will be the case, what does anyone else on the site think of this premise? In other words, once things are complex enough there will always be unexpected failures of equipment and accidents which the participating players have no control over in the real world. |

If they REALLY wanted to lower road deaths : install median barriers in the middle of high traffic 100kmh roads . But that cost money , so just talk about it instead . Its the NZ way, have opposing 100kmh traffic with only a white line to separate them . What could go wrong. Even Ak motorways used to be like that , just small plants(if that) separating opposing traffic , with plenty of head on deaths untill they put concrete median barriers in . Also, have real consequences for using cellphone while driving : ie instant loss of license , car/truck impounded . Start there . |

Only have to be driving about any day and you see people on Phones, not just talking either - Texting. :groan: Should be more like Aussie with their rules and enforcement on phones / drink and Drug Driving -- Only have to watch the program RBT to see they mean business. BUT NO We cant copy Aussie, wouldn't work here bet the govt thinks - WHY would be the Question ?? |
