1485940 2022-05-01 22:24:00 Economists are tipping Stats NZ will report that unemployment has fallen to a new record low when it releases jobs numbers for the first three months of this year on Wednesday.

Official unemployment fell to 3.2% in the December quarter while the ‘underutilisation rate’, which is a broader measure of unemployment and underemployment, remained unchanged at 9.2%.

Yes. what crap, see how they figure it:

I can't get work, yet I'm not counted and haven't been for ages now.
Down here part time is supermarket or aged care.

Well aged care I do which is why it needs to be part time, but I can't be on my feet for that long....
There was an ad for helpdesk at Now ISP, the one and only here....but I couldn't get that, too old for IT now.

me too.
I quit my job , finish up in a few weeks . Min wage caught up to my salary , so why stay on literally on min wage .
I know Ill never get another job in IT , Im now too old .

At least in Auckland there are plenty of jobs around . Some are so desperate for staff, age may not be the factor it once was .

1485945 2022-05-03 06:42:00 "Hamner was where the Air force and Navy sent their drunks" yes and everyone else as well that needed to "dry out" or get over whatever drug addiction.

There used to be a big mental health facility there but I can't remember the name. The patients would drop into the lovely big two story hotel/pub there for drinks, a really salubrious place. Also I think the hot pools used to be free or very cheap so it was like a health spa.

I stayed there once overnight and the place was really a lovely hospitable hotel, very welcoming, felt like coming home.

I'm sure when Queen Mary closed the inmates just moved into town and stayed on to become locals, this place has quite a drinking problem amongst the locals. That big hotel was the Heritage which closed in the first lockdown and was eventually bought by Asians and re opened under a new name. At the time it closed it was the second biggest employer here after the hot pools.

1485949 2022-05-03 23:25:00 Yes Queen Mary was the name of the hospital I couldn't bring to mind, but The Heritage is not ringing any bells, I stayed there in the early 80's so maybe it had a different name then? zqwerty (97)
