719655 2008-11-12 00:36:00 Sorry Richard - my source (www.wordreference.com)suggests I have the correct pronoun - "mort" is feminine, unless you are speaking about a "dead man"...

("Vie" is feminine - so it make sense that "mort" is too, plus the victim of this bizarre accident was also female...)

Seems odd that you expected it to make any sense. Very few genders do in my experience of language. In German, "Rock"(Dress) is masculine.

Maybe that says something about Germans though.
