833501 2009-11-25 07:31:00 While attempting to dial up, I get the above error while opening port.
I did a clean install of xp thinking it would fix this error but it hasn't fixed it.

I've spent the past few days on google trying to find a solution but all I can find is removing palm desktop and synchronization software, but i don't have that on the computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to try and correct this?

Thanks.

833503 2009-11-25 09:35:00 Did you read that to where it said "Applies to Windows 95" ?

Has the modem worked before? Did you do anything to it or install anything related to it before it stopped working?

Are you running any Fax software or Answerphone software etc?

833504 2009-11-26 02:39:00 I looked at that website, but there's nothing named "Rnaapp . exe" in the running processes .

I don't think anything was installed, there are multiple people who use that computer, but I thought once a clean install was done and the computer was back to factory settings, if something was installed then it would no longer be there . I had to reinstall the drivers for the modem for it to even attempt a dial up connection .

When I go into device manager and go to advanced properties, it says it's using the port COM1 to dial up (the PCI communications controller) and it says COM3 is in use (Not sure what's using it though, whether that makes a difference or not) . I also disabled the printer port, incase it was that which was interfering with it, but made no difference .

833505 2009-11-26 03:10:00 PCI communications controller is the generic name for most modems before the drivers are installed.

Can you check device manager, ensure that there is no yellow exclamation mark next to the modem? (post a screenshot if you wish)

833506 2009-11-26 05:23:00 This is probably not relevant, but I had exactly the same message yesterday when Opera offered to upgrade the browser to 10.10 I clicked the button and instead of offering a down load to save, it went into direct upgrade! Unfortunately I was in my user account so that was never going to work. I managed to stop it, and upgraded through the admin account. But had problems with the partially downloaded version,ie User account version insisted program was in use already. Fixed with Glarys using the modular mode on the registry and the normal temp file cleaner. I know it seems a hardware problem, but maybe something is getting loaded twice, maybe in the admin AND user account, or a partially loaded driver.
More an avenue to look at than a solution I'm afraid.

.

This behavior may occur when another device with a driver that is incompatible with Windows XP is in conflict with the modem.

Get the proper driver - if it still fails, the modem is stuffed.

833508 2009-11-27 06:59:00 Do you have any idea as to what your modem is? Agent_24 (57)
833509 2009-11-27 07:25:00 Go into device manager and double click on the entry. Then go to the details tab change it to hardware ids. Copy and paste whats there, here. Then we'll know exactly what it is Speedy Gonzales (78)
