833439 2009-11-25 04:52:00 Hi have tried all the fixes to get ethernet connection to work on a Xp machine and now considering getting a new network card. Will this more than likely fix the discconecting/unplugged cable problem.
Thanks for any advice.

833440 2009-11-25 05:09:00 Try another ethernet cable, put the ips in manually. Update the LAN drivers. Disable ipv6 Speedy Gonzales (78)
833441 2009-11-25 05:16:00 Assuming you've checked for correct drivers, and have removed, cleaned and re-seated the network card, please consider the option of a faulty cable, or a bad connection at the other end of the cable being the issue before you spend money on another card.

The other question is whether your existing hardware can cope with a regualr cable, or needs a cross-over (patch) cable.

I forget the current jargon for these different cable categories.

833442 2009-11-25 05:17:00 Used another cable that works, have updated drivers.dont use ipv6.Ethernet connection is onthe motherboard ethernet so was wondering if card would fix it? Rosscoe (3617)
833443 2009-11-25 05:26:00 Being XP, esp if its SP3 ( or even if its not) download and run Winsockfix (www.softpedia.com) - the TCP/IP layers of the Protocol may be damaged, this often cause that error. wainuitech (129)
833444 2009-11-25 05:57:00 Installed winsock and rebooted still saying cable unplugged. Rosscoe (3617)
833445 2009-11-25 06:04:00 Is it the only network connection on the system? Make sure its plugged in properly at both ends. Is it going through a router or dialup?? What about firewalls / proxies?? Is it enabled in the BIOS?? Are the LED's flashing on the NIC?? Does it show in device manager / Does it say its working in device manager? Nvidia firewall isnt on it is it? Speedy Gonzales (78)
833446 2009-11-25 06:18:00 Not only connection on system,Plugged in properly checked and changed cable, router, diailup works,Firewall fine ,no proxies,Enabled in bios,Leds flashing.Shows as working in device manager checked after updating realtex drivers. No nvidia firewall. Rosscoe (3617)
833447 2009-11-25 06:31:00 And where did the LAN drivers come from?? The mobo manufacturer's site? Speedy Gonzales (78)
833448 2009-11-25 06:32:00 sounds like dhcp on the router is faulty, or the switch on the router SolMiester (139)
