833088 2009-11-24 07:15:00 I'm not even sure what you call these things, but does anyone know if you can get spare supplies of the plastic thingies that attach the cooler to the motherboard. I mangled one and fortunately have kept a few spares from old fans, but stocks getting low. And yes I know how to use them but they still get wasted every now and then. Twelvevolts (5457)
833089 2009-11-24 07:57:00 ummmmm are you talking about the locking pins on like a socket 775 cooler? Battleneter2 (9361)
833090 2009-11-24 08:12:00 yes they are horrible. they should come up with something else to lock the heatsink. eveytime i tried to put it on 1 out of the 4 pins was always loose. even after apply pressure. gum digger (6100)

Yep - I can't seem to avoid bending one every now and then, especially with the bigger coolers, the stock one is usually ok. I could use a few more spares but haven't seen them for sale.

PS Last week Dick Smith employee claimed to never heard of thermal paste/grease, so heaven knows if you can buy any parts there anymore.

833092 2009-11-24 10:32:00 What CPU is it? I have a spare 45nm stock cooler you can have for free. Just pay for postage. qazwsxokmijn (102)

Yes I bought it before at Dick Smith - I guess calling it thermal paste instead of heat transfer compound makes all the difference.
