| 718828 | 2008-11-08 23:56:00 | National Now have 3 years to "get things right" - In other word's - they say they can do this that or the other promised everything. The country has given them the chance. - Now prove it. If they don't then the country will boot them out. Only time will tell. I hope things are easier to fix when youre the Government, not the Opposition. Our now retired MP Bob Clarkson, (who served just the one term before giving Parliament the two fingered salute), has been spilling the beans in a local paper. Here are a couple of things he tried to fix whilst there but was frustrated every step of the way. Whats your opinion? In NZ we have 67,000 State Houses. Each one costs the Tax Payer $460 per Week AFTER the rent is collected. The Government set up a Weather Tightness Resolution Service at a cost of $650,000, to process loan applications. After 12 Months they had processed only 7 loans that averaged $85,000. Heres hoping Key can put an end to this sort of waste for a start. :) |

| 718830 | 2008-11-09 00:09:00 | What is with the people mentioning communist party? They have obviously NEVER been to a country where the country is under communist rule and how badly the people suffer under that regime. I have driven many bus tours through most of the Eastern Block countries when it was under Communist rule and New Zealand is so far removed from that type of politics. None of our Political parties are anywhere close to Communism. True. Just talk to my Polish rellies. The foolish side swipes about Labour being the communist party are just trolls by people ignorant of communist reality. It is just done to rark up the intelligent people on this site - nothing to see here folks, just move on... |

It is just done to rark up the intelligent people on this site - nothing to see here folks, just move on... I'll second that. Most would agree, that in the years before 1984, New Zealand was one of the most controlled and regulated 'western' country outside of the communist eastern bloc, with both National and Labour governments. After 1984 successive Labour governments including the last have been more right wing than for example anything dreamed of in the UK Conservative governments of Churchill, MacMillan, or Heath , prior to Thatcher. Even Cic, being a Pom, knows this down in his heart of hearts :) To know what socialism and left wing extremism is about in a Westminster style system, you would have had to experienced the control, regulation, nationalisation of the post war UK labour government, and the years of Labour under Wilson and Jim Callaghan. This was the era of the talk of setting up private armies (eg by one General Walker) to fight the reds on the streets, who had come out from under their beds, and which inspired a comedy TV show. Another TV show inspired by the situation of the "flying pickets" etc was The Guardians, a show in which the monarchy had fled to Canada and the army led by the right wing had suppressed the reds. These shows were a counter or reflection to what was actually happening, where the left wing including the loonie MP Tony Wedgwood Benn were calling for the overthrow of the judiciary because they had imprisoned flying pickets, (who had organised mobs to travel around non-striking building sites to intimidate and beat up the non-strikers) |

Had one of those pretty little stickers stuck on, to say "we had voted", reminded me of Mugabe election and finger printing. lol I said to the polling clerk at the door, that we needed a change in government, as my wife and I had to walk right round the block to get access to the school, whereas in all the previous elections, a walkthrough gate had always been open, just 50 meters down the road. Oops sorry folks, it was the schools fault, they had changed the locks and hadn't given the Electoral folk a replacement key. Lurking. Ps. would have liked Labour to clean up the mess we are now in. There is no way our property is worth the 220% rise in cv since 1998. lurks. |

Excuse the syntax. |
