718723 2008-11-13 06:37:00 Who let the loony left out? Are they still banging on about this.....the election was so last weekend...... andrew93 (249)
718724 2008-11-13 09:04:00 It's the pea brains that can't handle profound thoughts, not the text formatting, that is the problem, mostly joking, but you get the point, I hope. zqwerty (97)
718725 2008-11-13 09:14:00 I predict that the key party will start penny pinching and cause people to tighten their belts as a knee jerk response to the global economic problems.

Ironically in the short term tax breaks he used to bribe his way into power may be a good thing in the short term; but over time lack of coherent government spending of taxes, even if supposed inefficiencies are a result, still means the money gets spent in one form or another in NZ and doesn't go to building racing yachts and purchasing high cost luxury items from outside economies by rip-off businessmen, which is bad for NZ in general.

Which school of economics does this come from? :confused:

718727 2008-11-13 18:26:00 The school where money taken out of the country, stays out of the country.

Or doesn't in this case.

I'm not sure how he imagines that our tax money builds racing yachts and high cost luxury items though... Health system, much?

He certainly was. But at TAX-payers expense! It's too expensive to have entertainers of this kind.

718729 2008-11-14 01:31:00 Christ, sometimes I wonder about you guys;

if the money is taxed out of the system and used by the government for whatever projects, ie Universal Health Care or suchlike, (N.B. this is one example of what could be done), then above money is not slurped up by businessmen and used by them to buy stuff, the aforesaid yachts etc as has been seen in the past.

Now, even if the money is used inefficiently/wasted (whatever that means; this is why right wingers want privatization, isn't it, I thought this was their number one bug-bear) for the above U.H.Care then the money will mostly still stay in NZ and not be wasted on overseas buying of products, the more money that falls into rich private hands the more likely that it will be spent on frivolous pursuits, so I Do Not support reducing taxes, in general.

The businessmen still get the money in the end but they have to jump through more hoops to get it.

Get It Now??????

718731 2008-11-14 03:25:00 Makes Zimbabwe look good. At least they know their money is useless. Richard (739)

OK, I'll bite. Why would a "businessman" want to work hard for whatever income someone (his employer) determines is appropriate for the use of his time and skills (and judging by this and other of your posts, I imagine that you believe anything over $50K is too much for someone to earn), and then not enjoy the fruits of his labours? A certain Finance Minister of recent times expressed a similar attitude to 'rich pricks' - thank goodness he no longer holds the position, with an attitude like that.

And why should the government (or you, for that matter) be the arbiter of what is 'frivolous' for a private individual to spend their hard-earned cash on??

Yacht-building (for instance) is a big export industry in NZ and provides many skilled Kiwis an opportunity to be gainfully employed.

Many of the components on a super-yacht (or even something a bit smaller) can be and are made in New Zealand too - and this provides many skilled (and unskilled) New Zealanders an opportunity for employment.

<economics lesson>
It's a money-go-round - you can't have employees without employers (and vice versa), employers need people to buy their products, people need employers to pay them so they have money to buy products.
